(Minghui.org) A Wuwei City, Gansu Province, man in his 70s was recently imprisoned to serve a three-year term for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been targeted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Zhi Wanchao was arrested on December 23, 2020, while printing informational materials about Falun Gong. Two more practitioners, Ms. Tang Runling and Ms. Kang Meiying, were arrested with him.

Ms. Tang was taken to the Wuwei Detention Center two days later. Ms. Kang was released after 15 days of detention. Their case statuses remain to be investigated.

Mr. Zhi was released on bail on the day of his arrest after he was denied admission by the local lockup due to his physical condition.

Three officers with the Liangzhou District Domestic Security Office went to Mr. Zhi’s home on February 1, 2021, and delivered his indictment to him.

Mr. Zhi was sentenced to three years by the Liangzhou District Court in June 2021. He was allowed to serve time at home due to his health.

The judge summoned Mr. Zhi to the courthouse on May 26, 2022. He went, only to be arrested and taken back into custody.

Mr. Zhi used to have severe rheumatoid arthritis. When it was bad, he was unable to work in the fields or even lift his legs. All of his symptoms disappeared after he took up Falun Gong in 1997. He was able to do all kinds of physical labor several months later. Because he refused to renounce Falun Gong after the persecution started, he has been repeatedly arrested and detained. He also served two prison terms prior to the latest sentence.
