(Minghui.org) A 92-year-old woman in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, has been on residential surveillance since March 2020 for her faith in Falun Gong. She is now facing trial.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

The authorities in Guizhou Province launched the “Zero-out” campaign in March 2020, a concerted effort aimed to force all Falun Gong practitioners on the government list to renounce their faith.

In most instances, the police and residential committee members called or visited the practitioners in person. If the practitioners refused to sign the prepared statements to renounce Falun Gong, the officials threatened to send them to brainwashing centers or prevent their children from finding jobs or going to college.

Ms. Rao Jiyu, then 90, was arrested on March 7, 2020. The police took a sample of her blood against her will and ransacked her home. Her Falun Gong books and 8,000 yuan in cash with information about Falun Gong printed on the bills were confiscated. She was released that evening after she failed the physical examination. She has since been put on residential surveillance.

In early May 2022, a staff member of the Nanming District Procuratorate went to Ms. Rao’s home and said she could hire a lawyer to represent her. Ms. Rao insisted that she didn’t violate any law by practicing Falun Gong. The person responded, “If you don’t hire a lawyer, the court will appoint a lawyer for you. They will come to your home in a few days to hold the hearing.”
