(Minghui.org) It’s recently confirmed by Minghui.org that a mother and her daughter in Guangdong Province were sentenced to prison on December 10, 2021, for practicing Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Qiu Huazhi, 69, was sentenced to two years with 5,000 yuan fine. Her daughter, Ms. Zhang Xiaozhou, 42, was given one and a half years with a 4,000 yuan fine.
The two women were recorded by surveillance camera distributing informational materials about Falun Gong while shopping in a plaza in Guangzhou City on June 4, 2020. The police arrested them on July 23 at Ms. Qiu’s home in Gongguan City (about 40 miles from Guangzhou). Both Ms. Qiu’s home and Ms. Zhang’s home in Guangzhou were ransacked. Their arrests were approved on August 28.
The police submitted the two women’s cases to the Haizhu District Procuratorate in Guangzhou on November 10, 2020. They were then indicted and had their case forwarded to the Haizhu District Court. They appeared in court on December 10 and were convicted.
Prior to their latest sentencing, Ms. Qiu was sentenced to seven years on December 16, 2003, by the Dongshan District Court in Guangzhou for talking to people about Falun Gong. Ms. Zhang was once held at a brainwashing center.
