(Minghui.org) A married couple in Beijing were recently sentenced to prison for their faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Chen Zhihua and Ms. Wang Yuhua, both 57, were arrested on June 5, 2021, after they came back from working in the over three-acre family farm. The police had attempted to arrest them the day before, but they weren’t home. Their Falun Gong books, printer and paper currency printed with information about Falun Gong were confiscated. Some locals villagers who had heard about their arrests condemned the communist regime for persecuting good people.
Due to strict information censorship in China, many Falun Gong practitioners use creative ways to raise awareness about the persecution, including printing information on paper currency.
The couple were held at the Miyun District Detention Center. It’s been recently confirmed that Mr. Chen was sentenced to 2.5 years and Ms. Zhang to 2 years by the Miyun District Court.
According to information collected by Minghui.org, at least 28 Falun Gong practitioners in Beijing were sentenced to prison in 2021. Another 215 were arrested and 244 were harassed. Two have passed away as a result of the persecution.
