(Minghui.org) A mother of three in Xuchang City, Henan Province was recently sentenced to 2.5 years with 5,000-yuan fine for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Ma Juan, in her 30s, was arrested at home on June 17, 2021. Prior to the arrest, she was harassed twice, by Li Hongwei, Luo Dongjun and Wang Xiaowei of the Domestic Security Office.
After more than eight months at the Xuchang City Detention Center, Ms. Ma appeared in a closed-door session at the Weidu District Court on February 25, 2022. She was charged with “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” the standard pretext used to criminalize Falun Gong practitioners. The judge announced her verdict on March 30.
One of Ms. Ma’s children has severe autism. He often runs out on his own and gets on any bus that he sees. At home, he has played with appliances like they were toys. He twice turned on the gas stove in the kitchen and almost caused two fires. Ms. Ma is the only one in the family who can calm down the boy. Her family is now very worried about how her children are coping with their mother incarcerated for her faith.
