(Minghui.org) A Guang’an City, Sichuan Province resident was secretly sentenced to three years for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Li Yanling was noticed by several plainclothes officers while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in a neighborhood in April 2021. The officers rushed over and beat her. When a local resident questioned why they were beating her, they replied that she deserved it because she was distributing the flyers. The resident tried to stop them, but the officers threatened to arrest him as well.
Ms. Li was later taken to the Guang’an City Detention Center. It has been reported that she was sentenced to three years in December 2021 and is now appealing the verdict, but the details about her case aren’t clear.
According to information collected by Minghui.org in the first half of 2021, 207 Falun Gong practitioners in Sichuan were arrested and 581 harassed. Another 34 practitioners were sentenced and 5 died as a result of the persecution. The eldest practitioner targeted was 93.
