Woman in Her 70s Arrested for Talking to People about Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) A Shantou City, Guangdong Province resident was arrested on January 26, 2022, after a student reported her for talking to him at a basketball playground about Falun Gong. Falun Gong, also called Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. 

Ms. Xu Yuqian’s home was ransacked by the authorities. She has been held at the Chenghai District Detention Center since. Officers from the Chenghai District Domestic Security Office and Lianxia Police Station participated in her arrest. 

Prior to her latest arrest, Ms. Xu, 74, was targeted twice before for raising awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong. 

She was arrested in 2003 for distributing informational materials and held in the Shantou Brainwashing Center, where she was subjected to severe mental and physical torture. As she refused to renounce Falun Gong, the authorities transferred her to the notorious Sanshui Brainwashing Center for further persecution. 

Ms. Xu was arrested again on September 26, 2008, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was held at the Chenghai District Detention Center.
