Making Phone Calls to China During the Chinese New Year

(Minghui.org) During the recent Chinese New Year season, I initially hesitated to phone China as I usually do. Yes, it is important for people to know what Falun Dafa is and the importance of breaking away from the hate propaganda of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). But, would it be impolite to phone people when family members were gathered for New Year celebrations?

As I thought about this further, however, I realized I worried too much. After all, Chinese New Year is a time for people to welcome new beginnings and hope for blessings. If I sincerely wish them well and share the important information that they do not yet know, people would be happy instead of annoyed.

When I went ahead and made calls, the results were surprisingly positive.

Traditional Culture

One person I spoke to was a teacher and we chatted for a long time about China’s ancient culture.

We talked about the ancient Chinese weighing scale. Made of wood, the handle has 16 marks that represent the constellations. The first six marks stand for the six stars in the South Dipper (namely, the four cardinal directions, plus and down), seven stars represent the Big Dipper, while the last three marks represent Fortune, Prosperity, and Longevity.

This was a reminder that everything we do is being watched and evaluated by the divine. Especially with trading that involves material interests, we should be honest and fair. Any misconduct has consequences. More specifically, by giving one mark less, one would lose a bit of fortune; two marks less, one’s prosperity would suffer; with three marks less, one’s life span would be affected.

This reflected the harmony of heaven, earth, and mankind, which people believed in in the past. But all these values were discarded by the CCP after it seized power several decades ago. In addition, by replacing traditional Chinese characters with simplified ones, the inner meaning of some Chinese characters was removed.

I told the teacher, “To make things worse, the regime persecuted the peaceful meditation group Falun Dafa along with the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. That is attacking the country’s core values, while its brutal persecution of faith systems such as Falun Dafa has endangered the world.”

The man was very moved. “You are giving me a precious New Year gift by telling me all this,” he said. “I now realize that I need to look into it and learn more.” We added each other as friends in an online chat group and I gave him a file containing Zhuan Falun. He was also happy to know me as a friend and hoped we might meet in the future.

Compassion and Wisdom

Another person named Hai was initially hesitant to quit the CCP organizations. He said life was good and he had nothing to complain about with regard to the CCP.

I congratulated him on his successful career and wealth. “Not everyone is as lucky as you. So many people are suffering and in poverty. Some even have difficulty finding food or a place to stay.” Due to the tight censorship in China, I recommended ways he could overcome the Internet blockade. After adding him as a friend on my social media, I sent him the software. In the end, Hai also agreed to sever ties with the CCP organizations.

Qing said he had attended the lectures given by Mr. Li Hongzhi (the founder of Falun Dafa) years ago. After the suppression started in 1999, he read other books about cultivation and became confused. I shared stories about Falun Dafa that other practitioners and I experienced, along with how well accepted Falun Dafa was in over 100 countries.

He was interested and, as we continued to talk, I answered many of his questions. In the end, Qing said he would look into Falun Dafa books again without prejudice. Before we hung up, he promised to keep in mind “Falun Dafa is good” and he agreed to quit the CCP organizations.

The Importance of Patience

Calling China is not easy. Having been inundated with the CCP’s hate propaganda for the past 23 years, most people are profoundly brainwashed and do not want to listen.

One time a man picked up the phone, listened for about a minute, said, “All right,” and hung up. I called again and he listened for only 12 seconds before ending the call. When I spoke to him for the third time, I first apologized. “Sorry for bothering you again. If I were you, I probably would do the same. But if you give me a few minutes, I can tell you something that will benefit you and your family.”

After hearing the facts about Falun Dafa and how the CCP abuses practitioners, he renounced his membership in the Young Pioneers. He also repeatedly thanked me.

One woman said she was grateful for the information. To make sure she memorized the phrases, “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good,” she recited them repeatedly during our conversation. I could feel that she was awakening, thankful, and happy.

I have not met the people I talk to, but I am glad to help them to learn the facts because only then can they break away from the CCP for a better future.
