71-year-old Woman Given Two Years for Her Faith in Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) It’s recently confirmed by Minghui.org that a 71-year-old Fushun City, Liaoning Province resident has been sentenced to two years for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Plainclothes officers broke into Ms. Cao Fengying’s home on September 8, 2021, ransacked it, and arrested her and her two guests, Ms. Wu Guilan, 78, and Ms. Liang Yuzhi, 70. Days later, the police searched Ms. Wu’s home and confiscated her Falun Gong materials. Her husband was terrified and fell ill afterward.

Ms. Cao’s family went to the police station to inquire about her case in early October 2021, and the security guard claimed that neither the police chief nor the officer in charge of the three Falun Gong practitioners’ cases was in the office. Another officer then directed them to the Shuncheng District Procuratorate, saying that the cases had been handed to the prosecutor.

Ms. Cao’s family went to the procuratorate but were not allowed in because “they hadn’t made an appointment,” per the receptionist, who also said that prosecutor Li has taken sick leave. They were then told to contact the department that handled the case documents. They went there, only to be told that only lawyers have access to that department, not the defendant’s relatives.

Ms. Cao’s family then consulted a lawyer, who said that as long as the family provided their IDs and documents showing their relationship to her, the prosecutor should allow them to review her case documents.

The family returned to the procuratorate and told the receptionist what they had learned from the lawyer. The receptionist then admitted that the practitioners’ cases had been received. She added that the police should have informed the families of that fact, but the family said they had never received any update from the police.

The three women are being held at the Fushun City Detention Center. Minghui.org recently confirmed that Ms. Cao was sentenced by the Shuncheng District Court. The other two practitioners’ case statuses are unknown.
