(Minghui.org) A new wave of COVID-19 cases were reported in Lingui District, Guilin City, Guangxi Province. The newly-built mobile cabin hospital was quickly filled with patients. Many more were taken to nearby Yangshuo County for quarantine. No one was allowed to leave or enter Lingui District. More cases have also been reported in Diecai District, Xiufeng District, and Xiangshan District.

In response, the local government ordered strict lockdowns, as well as road and school closures. But they ordered that schools not leave any written evidence of the school closures. As such, schools asked its teachers to inform the students one by one by phone calls, instead of sending out mass email. The teachers also couldn’t mention the word “class cancellation,” but had to refer to it as “health monitoring while sheltering in place.”

Many locals were fearful of the outbreaks and lockdown. Some who had access to internal information escaped from the city before the lockdown and stayed in the countryside.
