Shandong Man Arrested and Faces Prosecution After Going from Place to Place for Ten Years to Avoid Persecution for His Faith

(Minghui.org) After living in displacement for ten years to hide from the police, Mr. Wang Huayang was arrested in August 2022 and is now facing prosecution for practicing Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Wang is a 59-year-old native of Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province. A group of police officers broke into his home on April 23, 2012 and attempted to arrest him. While he wasn’t home and escaped the arrest, the police ransacked his place and confiscated his Falun Gong books, two computers, five printers, several satellite dishes, many office supplies and nearly 10,000 yuan in cash.

A village official took two officers around to look for Mr. Wang. As they couldn’t find him, the police installed surveillance cameras outside of his home and arranged people in the village to monitor the situation. To hide from the police, Mr. Wang was forced to live away home for the next ten years.

In an effort to track him down, the police arrested his wife Ms. Chi Ruimei and daughter Ms. Wang Longna and held them at the Zhaoyuan Detention Center.

Several local Falun Gong practitioners contacted the local authorities and urged them to release the mother and daughter. In retaliation, the 610 Office, an extralegal agency created to persecute Falun Gong, ordered the arrests of 20 practitioners and took them to a brainwashing center, together with Ms. Chi and Ms. Wang. The mother and daughter were detained for over four months and extorted 1,000 yuan before being released.

Ms. Chi was arrested again on July 16, 2015 and taken to the brainwashing center, after she filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese communist regime who ordered the persecution.

Meanwhile, the police never stopped looking for Mr. Wang. On September 8, 2018, they harassed another practitioner Mr. Jiang Qingzhi and demanded to know Mr. Wang’s whereabouts.

Yang Yongkui, the secretary of Zhaoyuan City Political and Legal Affairs Committee, and Xu Jianzheng and Gao Xuedong of the brainwashing center came to Ms. Chi’s home on September 7, 2021 and questioned her on Mr. Wang’s whereabouts again. They promised leniency to him if he came back, but would keep harassing her if he didn’t. Ms. Chi responded that the family had been persecuted by the government for so many years and that it should be her who asked the authorities when her husband could return home.

The police later located Mr. Wang in the nearby Qixia City and arrested him in August 2022. He is now held at the Qixia Detention Center.

To collect information against him, the police harassed several practitioners who knew Mr. Wang. When they couldn’t find the practitioners, they turned to their family members instead.
