(Minghui.org) A Zhucheng City, Shandong Province resident was sentenced to one year for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Yi Mingxiang was arrested on July 15, 2020, after being reported for distributing Falun Gong informational materials in a village. As she refused to answer any questions during the two days she was held at the Huanghua Police Station, the police harassed and intimidated her family in retaliation. She was later released on bail after her family paid the police 10,000 yuan bail bond.
Around January 2022, the police deceived Ms. Yi into going the police station and interrogated her again. She was made to appear at the Gaomi City Court on July 7, 2022, and returned home later that day.
A week later on July 15, the police took Ms. Yi to the Changle Detention Center, where the judge announced to sentence her to one year through a virtual meeting. None of her family members was notified of the unannounced sentencing hearing and they only learned of her sentencing when the police later called them to say that Ms. Yi has been transferred to a detention facility in Weifang. No hard copy of her verdict or detention certificate was given to her family.
Prior to her latest arrest and sentencing, Ms. Yi was previously arrested on September 15, 2015. The police ransacked her home on May 5, 2017 and harassed her shortly after on May 20.
