The police informed Ms. Huang’s family on January 23, 2022, that she had died earlier that day. Her body was soon moved to the Pengzhou City Funeral Home. Her family has seen her body, but further details about her death remain under investigation.
Since January 2022, the police in Pengzhou have arrested several local practitioners in addition to Ms. Huang. Mr. Zhou Jinba was arrested at home on January 6 and had his computer, cellphone, and Falun Gong books confiscated. Two others, Ms. Liu Jia and Ms. Gong Min, were also arrested on the same day. All three of them were held in the same detention facility where Ms. Huang died and they were all denied visits from their lawyers.
A fourth practitioner, Ms. Ye Fang, was arrested at home on January 19. The police spent hours searching her home, confiscating dozens of her Falun Gong books, 150 DVDs with information about Falun Gong, staples, ink cartridges, and other Falun Gong materials. When Ms. Ye’s family went to the police station the next day to deliver clothes to her, the police said she had already been taken to the Xinjin Brainwashing Center.
