Heilongjiang Couple Sentenced to Prison for Practicing Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) A married couple in Hulin City, Heilongjiang Province were sentenced to prison for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Feng Shujie began to practice Falun Gong in March 1997. She credits the practice for curing her heart condition, frozen shoulder and generalized edema. Unable to carry a bucket of water and always feeling her body heavy from the swelling before, she regained her health quickly and became energetic after learning Falun Gong.

A group of officers from the Hulin City Domestic Security Office broke into the yard of Ms. Feng’s home on December 1, 2020. They arrested her and her husband Mr. Dai Yajun. A few more officers came shortly after and confiscated the couple’s Falun Gong books, materials, and some electronic devices.

Ms. Feng was put on criminal detention on the same day and taken to the Jixi City Detention Center. Mr. Dai was released after five days of detention at Hulin City Lockup and arrested again on December 29, 2020.

The police submitted their case to the Mishan City Procuratorate, which indicted them and moved their case to the Mishan City Court on March 25, 2021.

The couple stood trial on June 4. Ms. Feng was sentenced to two years and six months, with a 5,000 yuan fine. Mr. Dai was sentenced to eight months and fined 2,000 yuan.
