(Minghui.org) An 84-year-old man is set to be released on June 2, 2021, after serving a three-year term for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Hao Fukui, a Dalian City, Liaoning Province resident, was arrested in a police sweep on October 8, 2017. Although he was released on bail on October 26, he was taken back into custody at the Dalian Prison on June 11, 2018, following his trial by the Kaifa District Court, which sentenced him to three years with a 5,000 yuan fine.
Mr. Hao and his late wife Ms. Guo Yuying were natives of Jilin City, Jilin Province. Ms. Guo first took up Falun Gong. After witnessing her health improvement, Mr. Hao and their three daughters also began to practice Falun Gong.
With the onset of the persecution, the textile factory Mr. Hao and his wife retired from took them to a brainwashing center on October 27, 2000, and monitored their daily activities.
Two days later, the couple escaped and went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong, only to be arrested and detained for 33 days. Both of them were then given two years of forced labor and had their pensions suspended for 45 months.
To avoid further persecution, they moved to Dalian City, Liaoning Province after being released. While doing the Falun Gong exercises at around 6 a.m. on May 20, 2005, over 20 officers suddenly broke into their residence in Dalian, took pictures, and ransacked every room.
The police turned the couple’s home upside down. Their Falun Gong books, informational materials, computer, four cellphones, six audio recorders, and other personal belongings worth several tens of thousands of yuan were confiscated. A six-foot-tall officer kicked Mr. Hao, then in his late 60s, in the back three times.
After being held at the police station for a day, Ms. Guo was released at around 6 p.m. Mr. Hao was transferred to the Kaifa District Detention Center, where he suffered a stroke and fell into critical condition. Despite that, the police refused to release him. Instead, they gave him two years and took him to the notorious Masanjia Forced Labor Camp on March 28, 2006.
Mr. Hao was very weak upon returning home from the labor camp. Through resuming practicing Falun Gong, he gradually recovered.
He and his wife's peaceful life didn’t last very long. In 2012, the police began to harass them and monitored their daily life again. The mental pressure took a toll on Ms. Guo’s health and she passed away on May 12, 2014.
In addition to the elderly couple, their three daughters, Ms. Hao Yueling (a librarian), Ms. Hao Yueshan (a middle school physics teacher), and Ms. Hao Yuehong, have also been persecuted for their shared faith.
