(Minghui.org) Two dozens residents in Changsha City, Hunan Province are facing prosecution for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. The police are refusing to meet with the practitioners’ lawyers to discuss their cases.
The practitioners, including teachers and lawyers, were arrested late at night on October 27 and 28, 2020 by hundreds of officers and residential committee staff members. The police confiscated the practitioners’ Falun Gong books, computers, and printers. They revealed that they had been monitoring the practitioners’ phone calls and online activities for a long time and they were following the order from above to arrest them. Ms. Li Zhonghua, 86, was harassed in the police sweep.
Except for Mr. Cao Zhifang and Ms. Yang Fang who had been taken to a brainwashing center, the remaining practitioners have had their arrests approved. The authorities denied the practitioners’ families' request to visit them, leaving their elderly parents and young children in deep distress.
One elderly practitioner’s daughter wrote a letter to the police, urging them not to participate in the persecution, only to be arrested and detained herself.
The known names of the other practitioners are: Mr. Li Zhigang, Mr. Chen Yang, Ms. Cao Zhimin, Ms. Zhang Lingge, Ms. Zhang Furong, Ms. Liu Yanping, Ms. Yu Hui, Ms. Xia Jingze, Mr. Meng Kai, Ms. Xu Lihua, Ms. Wen Jing, Ms. Li Donghui, Ms. Yuan Jing, Ms. Zhu Cuihua, Ms. Gong Xianghui, and Mr. Lu Congying.
When the practitioners’ lawyers went to the Liuyang Police Department, which was responsible for the arrests, the officers refused to come out to meet with them. According to insiders, only after the lawyers left, did the officers come out of their offices to check the situation.
The lawyers also contacted the Liuyang City Procuratorate, but the prosecutor also claimed that they were having trouble getting in touch with the police.
