Liaoning Woman Incarcerated and Beaten for Practicing Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) Since the Chinese Communist Party began persecuting Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, in July 1999, hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested, sentenced, detained, or even killed for upholding their faith. Ms. Ma Liguang, a resident of Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, is one of the victims.

The 70-year old Ms. Ma has been arrested five times, detained twice, and imprisoned once in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Her home has been ransacked four times. She was also extorted for more than 20,000 yuan.

Persecution in Jinzhou Detention Center

Following her arrest in March 2012, Ms. Ma was held at the Jinzhou Detention Center. Because she refused to cooperate with the police, she was dragged to the restroom and severely beaten. The police officer also kicked her in the head. As a result, she had swollen head and black eyelids. She felt painful all over her body the following day.

The police gave Ms. Ma one year of forced labor without due process two weeks later. On the way to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, Ms. Ma was brutally beaten inside the car, and nine of her teeth were knocked out. She had difficulty breathing and passed out. Yet the police accused her of pretending.

Tortured in Masanjia Labor Camp

Ms. Ma resisted the physical examination when she arrived at the notorious Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. The labor camp doctor examining her said to the guards, “This person is a tough one. She will definitely bring you trouble.”

The guards sealed Ms. Ma’s mouth with plastic tape, tugged her to the fourth floor, and vituperated her. Her jacket and pants fell off in the dragging. The next morning, she felt excruciating pain due to spinal dislocation and could not walk.

The guards took turns pressuring her to give up practicing Falun Gong every day. The tension from mental fear and stress made her bleed from the nose, and her blood pressure rose to over 190/110. She started to have stroke symptoms and was put on an IV drip. A labor camp doctor and the guards put unknown drugs into IV bottles without her knowledge. On one occasion, Ms. Ma was numb in the face and mouth. She felt cold and started to shiver. The guards quickly removed the injection needle and rushed her to the hospital emergency room. They then forced her to take a heart drug. Her heart was severely damaged from the drugs.

Ms. Ma was miserable since the incident. She could not stand or sit. She was forced to listen to loud recordings and watch videos that slandered Falun Gong. Every minute of living was torture for her.

On one occasion, the guards forced her to fingerprint the statement renouncing Falun Gong they had prepared. They also deprived her of family’s visitation rights and extended her term.

When she was released, a dozen of her family members and relatives greeted her at the gate. Her daughter cried and said, “Mom, Masanjia Labor Camp is very evil, and we did not know if you would come out alive.”

Sentenced Again

Ms. Ma was arrested again in 2014, when she was handing out Falun Gong informational materials in a farmers market. She refused to reveal her name, but the police identified her from their online database, and ransacked her home.

During the home raid, Ms. Ma started to show the stroke symptoms again. The officers extorted her daughter of 10,000 yuan for her release. A few months later, the police threatened to sentence her again, forcing Ms. Ma to live away from home to avoid the persecution.

Ms. Ma was arrested on August 8, 2016 in Shenyang City, about 150 miles from Jinzhou. The police did not notify her family, but took her directly to Jinzhou Detention Center. She was later sentenced to a six-month prison term by the Heishan County Court.
