(Minghui.org) I went with practitioner Yumei to see her mother, Auntie Lan, one morning in early winter. Antie Lan gave up her comfortable life in the city and moved to the mountains, so that she could clarify the truth about Dafa to people.
We took the bus to the mountains south of the city. It was a scenic drive that took about an hour. There happened to be a large fair that day and people were everywhere. We took the opportunity to talk to everyone about Falun Dafa. Most people were receptive to the information we gave them.
A Conversation Over Lunch
There were two elderly women sitting across from us at the place we had lunch. They introduced themselves, and one of them said she was 80 years old and was in poor health.
Yumei said with a smile, “You are of the same age as my mom. She has excellent health now, though she had lots of illnesses when she was in her 50s. She was hospitalized many times, but since she began to practice Falun Dafa in January 1999 she's been healthy ever since.”
The woman nodded, and commented, “I heard that Falun Dafa was good a long time ago.”
Yumei continued, “My mom has gone through many of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) political campaigns, and knows they've killed millions of good people. She was too scared to do the Dafa exercises when the CCP began to persecute practitioners in 1999. She fell ill again in 2000, but the hospital couldn't find anything wrong with her. Since then, my mom has continued to practice Falun Dafa.”
The woman smiled, and said, “There are people in our area practicing Falun Dafa. We probably should ask them to teach us.”
We told the women about quitting the CCP so that they would be safe in the future. They happily agreed to quit and accepted the Dafa amulets we gave them.
Spreading Dafa in the Village
As we waited for the taxi after lunch Yumei pointed to the mountains and told me that, for the past two years, Auntie Lan had lived by herself in the village. She was undaunted by the wind and snow and told every family in the village about Dafa. She gave informational materials to the farmers and introduced them to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
People in the village usually don’t travel far. What they hear and see are only the CCP lies and propaganda broadcast on TV and radio. They don’t have access to true information. Some have formed a negative concept about Dafa because of this.
A practitioner had previously donated two large bags of children's clothes. Yumei took them to Auntie Lan, who in turn distributed them among the villagers. She carried them up and down the stairs to each home, and gave them Dafa materials at the same time.
Treating People with Kindness
Auntie Lan was delighted to see us. Her face was fair and ruddy and had no wrinkles. Her eyes were bright, and she didn't appear to be 80 years old. She told us what had happened earlier that year.
Auntie Lan often pulled her little cart with Dafa pamphlets to distribute. She always handed them to people in person.
One afternoon, she went down a long street putting up posters on the utility poles and lamp posts. As she reached for her last poster, a young man shouted, “What are you doing?
“What’s the matter?” she replied calmly.
“Did you post this?” the man asked, pointing at the poster.
“It tells you how to survive the pandemic,” Auntie Lan replied.
The young man grabbed her arm and called the police. A police car came within five minutes and took Auntie Lan to the police station.
A few officers surrounded her at the station and tried to pressure her into giving them information on where she got the materials. She told them, “I wouldn't tell you no matter how you treat me. What I'm doing is most righteous. I am telling you how to avoid the pandemic. I didn't do anything illegal. Now let me go home.”
The police went to her home and ransacked it. They seized Dafa books, pamphlets and posters. Auntie Lan still wouldn't answer their questions. The chief got mad and said, “Were you a bit younger, I would have struck you.”
A kind officer gave Auntie Lan some buns to eat at dinner. Auntie Lan told the officers to remember “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good” to survive the pandemic.
They were going to take her to the detention center, but Auntie Lan’s kindness moved the officers. A female officer said, “She's too old already. Why don’t we call her son to take her home?”
Auntie Lan’s son came from the city that night and took her home.
I learned a lot from talking with Auntie Lan, and was moved by her actions and admired her very much. I will cherish the cultivation opportunity.
