(Minghui.org) A Hengyang City, Hunan Province resident was sentenced to four years by a court in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, for her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Meiying was arrested at her home in Hengyang on September 8, 2020. Both the local police and their counterparts in Guangzhou participated in her arrest. She was taken to Guangzhou and held at the Shawan Detention Center in Panyu District since. The police claimed that she was recorded distributing Falun Gong materials near a university in Guangzhou in July 2020, while visiting her daughter there.
The Guangzhou police submitted Ms. Wang’s case to the Haizhu District Procuratorate in November 2020. She was indicted on January 28, 2021 by prosecutor Xu Jiexia.
During her hearing at the Haizhu District Court on April 16, 2021, the presiding judge Chen Wenling claimed that the surveillance camera recorded the back of a woman distributing materials, who looked like Ms. Wang. As the police also found Falun Gong materials at her home, they claimed that it was her who was recorded in the video. Ms. Wang denied all the charges. Her lawyer also entered a not guilty plea for her.
The judge sentenced Ms. Wang to four years with 10,000 yuan fine on November 18, 2021. Her lawyer filed an appeal on her behalf on November 26. He also submitted her complaint against the detention center for withholding her family’s letters to her.
