(Minghui.org) A 65-year-old man in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province was sentenced to four years on December 10, 2021 for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
This is the second time that Mr. Guo Hongshan has been sentenced for practicing Falun Gong, following a ten-year term given in 2002. His wife, Ms. Sun Yufeng, who also practiced Falun Gong, passed away in 2012, after being tortured and given poisonous injections at a mental hospital.
Mr. Guo’s latest arrest was on May 27, 2021. The police claimed that they arrested him to follow up on an old case in 2015.
Mr. Guo was previously arrested on November 18, 2015, while making informational materials about Falun Gong with several other practitioners. He failed the physical examination due to a heart condition and was released on bail. He was forced to live away from home for over a year to hide from the police and was frequently harassed after he returned home.
Officers of the Heping Street Police Station submitted his case to the Haigang District Procuratorate in August 2021, and he was indicted in early October.
Mr. Guo stood trial at Changli County Court on November 2. His family wasn’t allowed to attend the hearing. The presiding judge, Zhang Qiusheng, handed down the four-year term against him on December 10.
