Ms. Wang Shuqin was forced to do intensive labor despite her severe back pain, while serving a 6.5-year term for her faith in Falun Gong. The resident of Tianjin passed away from lung cancer on October 24, 2021, 15 months after she was released on medical parole.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Health That Improved by Practicing Falun Gong Declined Again Due to Persecution

Before taking up Falun Gong, Ms. Wang suffered from several severe ailments, including a heart condition, high blood pressure and asthma. She was so weak that she didn’t even have the strength to push her bike onto the side step on the road. She was confined to the bed most of the time and unable to care for herself.

After practicing Falun Gong, she soon got back on her feet. She didn’t only take on many household chores, but also took care of her bedridden father and ailing mother, as well as her parents-in-law and grandchildren.

While she enjoyed a happy life from practicing Falun Gong, the persecution that started in 1999 caused her health to decline again and eventually took her life.

Sentenced to 6.5 Years

Ms. Wang was ambushed by police officers, when she returned home on April 16, 2014. The police pushed her to the ground and caused her to pass out.

She was taken to the police station for interrogation. The police said they had been monitoring her for many days and it’s an order given by the Tianjin municipal government to arrest her. Two agents of the Tianjin 610 Office, an extra-legal agency created specifically to persecute Falun Gong, also participated in her arrest.

The police later broke into Ms. Wang’s home and confiscated her two computers, two printers, her contact book and a notebook. They also attempted to extort an unknown amount of money from her family.

The authorities kept Ms. Wang at the Binhai New District No. 1 Detention Center, without allowing her family to visit her. Her family was only asked to sign her arrest warrant, 14 days after she was seized. They never received any other update about her case afterwards.

Ms. Wang appeared in the Tanggu Court on July 23, 2014. Her lawyer entered a not guilty plea for her. She was so weak that she fainted during the session.

Prior to her second hearing in early August 2014, the judge threatened her lawyer not to defend her innocence, or he would adjourn the session.

The lawyer wasn’t deterred by the judge and insisted on seeking justice for Ms. Wang. The judge adjourned the hearing in less than 10 minutes.

The court later deceived Ms. Wang’s family into dismissing the lawyer by promising to give her a probation if they gave up her legal representation and didn’t enter a not guilty plea.

Ms. Wang was still sentenced to 6.5 years to the Tianjin Women’s Prison. She suffered persistent back pain and was still forced to perform intensive labor every day without pay. She requested to seek medical treatment, yet the guards accused her of pretending to be ill.

As her condition kept deteriorating, the prison released her three months ahead of time on July 16, 2020. When her family took her to the hospital for a checkup in early August 2020, she was found to have lung cancer. She passed away on October 24, 2021.
