(Minghui.org) A Yushu City, Liaoning Province resident was sentenced to 3.5 years for raising awareness about the persecution of her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been targeted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhang Liyun, 58, was arrested on January 26, 2021, after being reported by Liu Jingwei, the head of Risheng Village, for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong there.
The police held her in the police department for a two-week quarantine, before taking her to the Yushu City Detention Center on February 11, 2021.
The police later submitted Ms. Zhang’s case to the Dehui City Procuratorate. She was tried by the Dehui City Court on July 23, 2021 and sentenced to 3.5 years to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison.
Prior to her latest sentencing, Ms. Zhang has been repeatedly harassed in the past 22 years for her faith.
For working with 15 other practitioners to clean the snow on the road, Ms. Zhang and her fellow practitioners were arrested on February 20, 2004. She was beaten at the Yushu City Detention Center and later confined to a term of indeterminate length at Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp. She fainted from the beating and had injuries in her lungs, which caused her difficulty breathing. She kept coughing and needed help while walking.
An officer from the Qingshan Village Police Station harassed Ms. Zhang around August 10, 2017. He took her photo and asked for her cellphone number.
Wang Minghui of the Qingshan Village Justice Bureau and Zhou Qiyi of the Yujia Village Security Director harassed Ms. Zhang on July 24, 2020. They asked her whether she still practiced Falun Gong and ordered her to sign a statement to renounce it. She refused to comply.
