(Minghui.org) An Anshan City, Liaoning Province resident stood trial on September 15, 2021 and was sentenced to 1.5 years for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Chen Lina was arrested at home on March 23, 2021. The police broke in with a master key, after she refused to open the door. She was put on criminal detention the same day. After the Lishan Police Station approved her arrest on April 1, 2021, Ms. Chen’s family hired a lawyer for her.
Ms. Chen was tried by the Lishan Court on September 15, 2021. Her lawyer entered a not guilty plea for her. He argued that no law has ever criminalized Falun Gong in China and that Ms. Chen didn’t violate any law in practicing her faith. Judge Li Yueguang sentenced her to 1.5 years.
Since 2014, Judge Li has sentenced at least 15 Falun Gong practitioners to prison. Mr. Bai Jiurong’s bedridden wife, Ms. Kou Xiaokun, was taken to a nursing home after his arrest and passed away on March 12, 2015, one month before he was sentenced to six years.
Prior to her latest arrest, Ms. Chen was given 15 days of detention following her arrest on December 6, 2017 for raising awareness about Falun Gong. She was arrested again on May 13, 2020 and put under house arrest.
