(Minghui.org) A 55-year-old dentist was imprisoned on October 11, 2021 to serve a nine-year term for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Wang Wei, of Nanyang City, Henan Province, was targeted in a mass arrest of over 160 practitioners between August 30 and 31, 2019. He and 26 other practitioners were tried by the Wancheng District Court on August 11, 2020 and sentenced on December 30, 2020.

Mr. Wang was given nine years with a 40,000 yuan fine. The other practitioners were sentenced to terms between seven months and thirteen years and fined between 3,000 to 50,000 yuan. They appealed the verdicts, but the Nanyang City Intermediate Court ruled to uphold their original sentences without a hearing on March 31, 2021.

Mr. Wang was taken to the Zhengzhou Prison on October 11. The guards said to his family that he would be denied visitation in the first two months.

Mr. Wang worked as a dentist at the Nanyang City No. 1 People’s Hospital. He was previously arrested at his office on May 15, 2007, for talking to a patient about Falun Gong. The police confiscated his keys and ransacked his home.

Mr. Wang was seeing a patient on November 13, 2010 when he was asked by the hospital’s political director to go downstairs for a package. He went there moments later, only to be arrested and taken to a brainwashing center set up in a hotel.
