(Minghui.org) Four Luzhou City, Sichuan Province residents were sentenced to prison on October 8, 2021 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Dai Qunying was sentenced to three years and eight months, with a 7,000-yuan fine.Mr. Liu Kaisheng was sentenced to three years and six months, with a 6,000-yuan fine.Ms. Jian Hongmei was sentenced to three years and four months, with a 5,000-yuan fine.Ms. Li Shifang was sentenced to two years and ten months, with a 3,000-yuan fine.
All four have appealed the verdicts.
The four practitioners were arrested at a farmers’ market on August 16, 2020. They were first held in the Hejiang County Detention Center and then transferred to the Naxi District Detention Center. The police ransacked their homes while they were still detained. Their Falun Gong books, photos of Falun Gong’s founder, computer, cellphone, and some computer memory cards were confiscated. The police fabricated the number of confiscated items in the prosecution evidence against them.
The practitioners stood trial at the Hejiang County Court on April 2, 2021. Ms. Dai and Ms. Li’s lawyers entered a not guilty plea for them. Ms. Jian dismissed her court-appointed lawyer, while Mr. Liu retained his. All four practitioners also testified in their own defense and pleaded not guilty. Their family members and friends weren’t allowed to attend the hearing.
