(Minghui.org) A Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province resident was secretly sentenced to five years for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Li Yanjie, in her 50s, was arrested on March 12, 2020, after the police found that she had distributed Falun Gong informational materials in a residential area. The police spent eight hours ransacking her home, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., checking every corner and every piece of paper they could find. Her printer, several cellphones, memory cards, and even her debit cards were confiscated.

Ms. Li’s husband and daughter were also arrested and had their cellphones taken away. Her daughter was released on the next morning and her husband in the afternoon. The police didn’t return their cellphones.

Ms. Li was transferred to the Dorbod Mongol Autonomous County Detention House the next afternoon and later taken to the Daqing City Detention Center. Her family has been denied visitation to her and was also kept in the dark of her case status.

Only when her lawyer went to the detention center to visit her on January 4, 2021, did they learn that she had been secretly sentenced to five years by the Ranghulu District Court. The lawyer is helping her appeal the verdict.

The lawyer visited Ms. Li again on January 14. She was carried out by two guards. She told the lawyer that she was having heart problems and that she felt so much pain in her legs that she couldn't walk.
