(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 17 cities or counties in 11 provinces, where at least 29 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Beijing] Ms. Yue Guihua Formally Arrested
Ms. Yue Guihua of Beijing was arrested in late February 2020, and taken to the Pinggu District Detention Center. However, the authorities there didn't admit her, and she has been under house arrest since then.
Ms. Yue was taken to Pinggu Hospital for a nucleic acid test and a physical exam by officers from the Binhe Police Station on July 2. She was taken to the Pinggu Detention Center around July 4, and has been formally placed under arrest.
2. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Gao Yongsheng Ran Away from Home
Mr. Gao Yongsheng was deceived and nearly taken to a brainwashing center for eight days detention in June 2020. However, he ran away. No one knows of his whereabouts.
Agents from the Political and Legal Affairs Committee went to his barbershop and questioned the people there on August 6.
3. [Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Zhang Xueqin Tried in Court
Ms. Zhang Xueqin of Lianyungang City was reported to the authorities and arrested for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was tried in court on August 6, 2020.
Ms. Zhang was previously arrested in 2016 and sentenced to three years in prison.
4. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Ms. Yang Guifang Detained
Ms. Yang Guifang, 70, single, was arrested by officers from the Xiazhuang Police Station on July 30, 2020, after someone reported her for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was interrogated and is being held in the Pudong Detention Center.
5. [Shanghai] Ms. Wang Zhenghe and Ms. Qiao Maorong Sentenced
Ms. Wang Zhenghe of Shanghai was sentenced to a two-year prison term by the Jingan District Court on the afternoon of August 7, 2020. Ms. Qiao Maorong, Ms. Wang’s daughter, was sentenced to 16 months in prison.
6. [Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province] Three Practitioners Harassed
Ms. Cai Rong’s daughter received a call from at the Hongguang Neighborhood Committee in the Xiangyang District in mid-July 2020. They asked if her mother was still practicing Falun Gong. Her daughter only confirmed that she was her daughter and hung up the phone.
Ms. Nie Fang received a call from the Huanlu Neighborhood Committee in Xiangyang on the afternoon of July 13. The person said, “You practice Falun Gong, so you need to write a guarantee statement and have your photo taken.” The person knocked on Ms. Nie’s door twenty minutes later. No one answered, so she left.
Ms. Lu Shuxian’s son got a couple of harassing calls from the Anmin Neighborhood Committee in Xiangyang on August 5.
7. [Jiuquan City, Gansu Province] Mr. Xiao Zhanlong Harassed
Mr. Xiao Zhanlong of Jiuquan City was harassed by phone and at home by officers from the police station and personnel from the Jinquan Road Neighborhood Committee in early August 2020.
8. [Qianxi County, Hebei Province] Ms. Ma Xiulin and Mr. Zhang Chunshan Arrested
Ms. Ma Jilin of Qianxi County was arrested in July 2020 and taken to the Chengguan Police Station. She was forced to sign a document. Mr. Zhang Chunshan was arrested on the same day and taken to the police station.
About ten people went to see Ms. Ma on the morning of August 7 and tried to coerce her into writing a guarantee statement.
9. [Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Wang Meiying Harassed
Ms. Wang Meiying, in her 70s, was harassed at home in mid-August 2020.
Officer Zhong Hang and two others from the Zhanggong District Domestic Security Division ransacked her home on July 28. They confiscated Falun Gong books, videotapes of Falun Gong's founder, Falun Gong materials, and other personal belongings.
10. [Changsha City, Hunan Province] Mr. Dai Xuebing Arrested
Mr. Dai Xuebing of Changsha City was arrested soon after returning home on the evening of August 6, 2020, by officers who were hiding nearby.
11. [Chongqing] Mr. Zhang Fuming Harassed
Mr. Zhang Fuming, in his 70s, was harassed at home by officer Peng Zhengxiang and Hong Yuechen from the local police station on the afternoon of July 3, 2020.
Mr. Zhang was taking a nap when the officers knocked on his door. He opened it, and they forced their way in. The officers took photos and asked Mr. Zhang for his phone number. Mr. Zhang refused to give it. They also questioned if he was still practicing Falun Gong. They recorded all of their conversation.
Mr. Zhang is legally qualified to receive financial aid, 800 yuan per month, after his only child’s death, but the 610 Office has stopped it.
12. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Five Practitioners Detained
Ms. Su Lifeng, in her 60s, Ms. Liu Jingxiu, 68, Ms. Sang Jingmei, in her 40s, Ms. Xiao Benying, in her 60s, and Ms. Yao Yuyan of Changchun City were arrested by officers from the Nanguangchang Police Station on the afternoon of August 6, 2020, after a shop owner reported them for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong.
Ms. Su and Ms. Sang’s homes were ransacked. All five practitioners are being detained.
13. [Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Zhang Shuqin Facing Trial
Ms. Zhang Shuqin was charged by the procuratorate. The court told her family that the trial is due to be held at 9 a.m. on August 19, 2020.
14. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Mr. Du Zhaocai and Ms. Wu Ruifang's Cases Reversed
Mr. Du Zhaocai and his wife, Ms. Wu Ruifang, from Jiaolai Town were arrested on August 8, 2018, and sentenced to six-year prison terms by the Huangdao District Court on December 3, 2019. They appealed to the Qingdao City Intermediate Court on April 7, 2020, which reversed the decision of the lower court. The case was sent back to the Qingdao Procuratorate.
Mr. Du Zhaocai was held in the Jiaozhou Detention Center, before being transferred to the Shandong Province Prison on July 5, 2020. Ms. Wu Ruifang is still being held in the Pudong Detention Center.
15. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Xia Huanzhen Harassed
Ms. Xia Huanzhen was harassed at home by officers from the Hengdian Police Station around 9 a.m. on June 10, 2020. They forcibly took her photo, fingerprints, and blood samples.
Officers from the police station and personnel from the village committee later threatened her two sons, saying that if their mother keeps practicing Falun Gong they would get both their wives fired from their jobs. Her sons were scared, and came home and told their mother to move out.
16. [Qianxi County, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhao Guiping and Family Harassed Repeatedly
Ms. Zhao Guiping, in her 70s, was harassed repeatedly by officers from the Domestic Security Division on July 17, 2020. When Ms. Zhao was not at home the officers, citing that she was released on bail, forced her son to look for her in their relatives' homes.
Zhu Jianying, deputy head of the Domestic Security Division, and three other officers coerced Ms. Zhao's son into taking Ms. Zhao to the Zunhua City Procuratorate on July 21. The police said that she would be charged, and, if she didn't go, they would fine her son 20,000 yuan and get her son and daughter-in-law fired from their jobs.
In the Public Prosecution Section of the Zunhua Procuratorate Lan Lirong asked Ms. Zhao why she practiced Falun Gong and why she was in hiding.
17. [Tieling City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Liu Xiaoru Arrested and Released
Ms. Liu Xiaoru of Tieling City was arrested on August 3, 2020, for distributing Falun Gong fliers. She was released on August 7.
18. [Panjin City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Li Hong Held in Brainwashing Center and Released
Ms. Li Hong of Liaohe Oil Field was held in a brainwashing center for 5 days by agents from the Panjin City 610 Office and officers from the Shuguang Police Station. She was released on August 1, 2020.
Ms. Li and her family were threatened not to tell anyone about it.
19. [Dehui City, Jilin Province] Mr. Liu Zhongrong Detained and Released, Mr. Liu Changrong Arrested and Released
Mr. Liu Zhongrong of Dehui City was arrested on July 8, 2020. He took a taxi and talked to the driver about the persecution of Falun Gong. The driver reported him and delivered him to the police department. Mr. Liu's home was ransacked, and Falun Gong books and other personal belongings were confiscated. He was detained, but has since returned home.
Mr. Liu Changrong of Dehui was deceived into opening his door by officers from the Shengli Police Station on the afternoon of July 17. They searched his home and confiscated Falun Gong books. Mr. Liu was taken to the police station, where he was photographed, videotaped, and forced to give his signature. He was later released.
