My Understanding of Supernormal Powers

(Minghui.org) It is necessary for Falun Dafa practitioners to use our supernormal powers while saving people. I’d like to share my thoughts with you.

During the July 20^th period last year, I went out to hang up truth-clarification banners. I found a good spot and took out my banner. Just as I was about to throw it onto a tree branch, a man riding a bicycle passed by and glanced at me. I had a feeling he would come back.

Sure enough, he turned around, parked next to the curb, and started making a phone call (I assumed to the police). I watched him talk on the phone, wishing he would leave so that I could hang up my banner. Since he did not leave, I finally left.

I sent forth righteous thoughts as soon as I got home. I thought about how I could save that man after he committed such a bad deed. I couldn’t stop him on the spot, but I felt he should immediately have a negative experience – something memorable that would help him understand it was because he stopped a Falun Dafa practitioner from saving people.

In addition, the police station that he reported me to should also know about his lesson so that they would not persecute practitioners in the future.

From then on, I sent forth righteous thoughts as soon as I heard of any persecution case. My intention was to have the persecutors realize it was payback for persecuting practitioners, and they should correct their wrongdoings.

Sometimes it’s hard to identify which people are involved in the persecution so that we can clarify the facts to them. I felt if they had a negative experience immediately after, it would help them understand that what they did was wrong. Otherwise, if the lesson came weeks or months later, they would not realize it was due to their involvement in persecuting Dafa.

I shared my understanding with another practitioner, but she disagreed with me. She said the only thing we had a role in was saving people, and having something negative happen to people was not part of it. I explained that my motive was not negative. But the other practitioners agreed with her; in fact, most practitioners said I was wrong.

I said, “In the Fa-rectification verses Master taught us, the last verse was ‘Immediate retribution in this lifetime.’ In my understanding, letting the evildoers suffer retribution immediately after committing a wrong deed is grounded in the Fa. If the lesson wakes him up, he can be saved. Even if he does not wake up and cannot be saved, he should not be allowed to do bad things at will and ruin other people.”

Master said,

“In fact, some disciples and beings in different realms who are able to use their supernormal abilities in different dimensions have been using their supernormal abilities and gong potency (gongli) to take part in eliminating the evil beings that damage Dafa. When some Dafa disciples see evil beings, they send out Falun and Dafa’s divine powers to eliminate the evil. There are also students who have set certain times when the world’s murderers and assailants who beat people will receive retribution. They have effectively eliminated evil factors and restrained the bad people.” (“Dafa Disciples’ Righteous Thoughts are Powerful,” Essentials for Further Advancement II)

I remember a Minghui article about a prison guard who was going to persecute a practitioner. The practitioner told the guard, “The last time you persecuted practitioners, you suffered a heart attack. Be careful.” The prison guard ignored the warning, and fifteen days later he suffered a stroke. The other guards were so frightened that they dared not persecute that practitioner anymore.

According to another Minghui article, A police captain in Dalian, Liaoning Province abducted a practitioner. The practitioner sent forth righteous thoughts and then said, “Don’t your legs hurt after kidnapping me?” From that moment on, the captain’s legs were in so much pain that he couldn’t put his feet on the ground. The pain intensified and he could not walk.

Since nothing helped, he went to a fortune-teller who told him, “You have offended gods and Buddhas. Your leg pain is your punishment. When did the pain start? What did you do?” He said he didn’t do anything special except arrest a female Falun Dafa practitioner a few days before.

The fortune-teller said, “That was it! Release her as soon as possible, and you will be fine.” The captain used his connections and had the practitioner released. His leg pain was gone immediately.

A Righteous Starting Point

Some practitioners remained steadfast and refused to sign any statements to stop practicing. They were persecuted anyway. Others did the same thing and were left alone.

In one Minghui article, a practitioner was told to sign something before being released from prison. He read the document and said, “This is an insult to me.” He was tortured for five days. When the same demand was made of another practitioner, he said, “This is an insult to Dafa.” He did not have to sign and was released.

The circumstances were the same; the only difference was one word. The results were very different, because their standpoint was different.

Many practitioners obeyed their persecutors: They docilely got into the police van and allowed the police to take them away. Some did resist but were still dragged away.

In contrast, when the police grabbed one practitioner’s arm, he swung his arm and threw the policeman quite a distance away. A nearly 90-year-old practitioner was sitting on a couch. When the policeman grabbed her, she swung her arm and flung him into the courtyard.

Master said in the section "Martial Arts Qigong,"

“When you try to ward off someone’s attack, the gong will also be there already. No matter how quickly you throw a punch, it will travel faster than you do as the time concepts are different on the two sides.” (Lecture Six, Zhuan Falun)

Why did so many practitioners (including me) fail to sternly warn their persecutors when they were arrested? I have discussed this with fellow practitioners, and our conclusion was: either it didn’t occur to us or our human thoughts stopped us. We were worried that our words would have no effect, but instead incur more persecution.

Our human thoughts have hindered our righteous thoughts; consequently we could not stop our persecutors and we were stuck in long term persecution. The supernormal powers Master gave us could not play a part, we could not display Dafa’s mighty power, and we could not validate Dafa and save more people.

I think we practitioners should share understandings about this topic more often, and think about why we tend to passively endure the persecution.

Master said,

“If every one of you can understand the Fa from the depths of your mind, that will truly be the manifestation of the Fa whose power knows no boundary—the reappearance of the mighty Buddha Fa in the human world!”(“Cautionary Advice,” Essentials For Further Advancement)
