(Minghui.org) Two Qingyuan County, Liaoning Province residents have been detained for five months for their faith in Falun Gong. The police refused to release them even though the local procuratorate has returned their cases due to insufficient evidence. One of the women is still suffering from complications after being beaten following her arrest five months ago.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Ma Fengju was arrested on September 25, 2019 while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong, which she credits for curing her asthma and helping her to improve her relationship with her mother-in-law.
Another practitioner, Ms. Liu Yunying, who went with her, was also arrested.
The police attempted to collect Ms. Ma’s fingerprints while interrogating her at the police station. She refused to comply. The officers then slapped her in the face dozens of times.
When the two women were transferred to Fushun City Detention Center on the next day, another officer slapped Ms. Ma in the face during a physical checkup.
Ms. Ma began to exhibit symptoms after being brutalized by the police. Her family went to the police station to seek justice for her upon hearing about her situation. Wang Dong, the head of Yaozhan Police Station who beat Ms. Ma, yelled at and tried to intimidate her family.
The police submitted Ms. Ma and Ms. Liu’s cases to Wanghua District Procuratorate on October 30, 2019. The prosecutor returned the case in late December 2019 due to insufficient evidence, but the police refused to release them and attempted to collect more evidence to charge them.
According to Ms. Ma’s family, she is experiencing dangerously high blood pressure and a heart condition in the local detention center. She is constantly feeling dizzy and has to put her hands on the wall to keep her balance while walking. Her family is very worried about her and demanding that the authorities release her.
