(Minghui.org) Continued from Part 3.
To protest the horrible abuse, Ms. Liu was on some sort of hunger strike for a good three-quarters of the two years she was at Masanjia. Besides having her term extended as a result, Ms. Liu was hospitalized multiple times at the Masanjia Hospital and was twice rushed to the China Medical University Shengjing (No. 2) Hospital in critical condition.
The camp authorities and guards planned a meeting at the beginning of 2001 and encouraged detainees to tell on Dafa practitioners for doing the exercises or having Dafa scriptures in possession at the meeting. Ms. Liu told other practitioners not to attend this meeting and asked to meet with Captain Zhang. When Zhang didn’t respond to her request, Ms. Liu went on a hunger strike to protest.
Ms. Liu grew so weak after two weeks that she couldn’t walk. When she passed out for the second time, she was taken to Masanjia Hospital. The hospital director, deputy director, head of the Internal Medicine Department met to discuss Ms. Liu’s condition. Having already shown severe symptoms of heart problems prior to the hunger strike, the head of the Internal Medicine Department admitted that she would have died in two days if she hadn't received treatments in time.
Ms. Liu told the doctors and nurses why she was on a hunger strike and told them about the torture she was subjected to for upholding her belief. The hospital called Zhang Jun, the head of Division No. 3. Zhang visited Ms. Liu at the hospital and lied to her, “We give up trying to 'transform' you and will not put you on the big stretching bed again. Just work with the doctors to get better.”
Ms. Liu believed Zhang. She started to eat and gradually recovered. However, once back at the labor camp, she was retaliated against and back on the big stretching bed again. Ms. Liu asked Zhang, “Didn’t you tell me at the hospital that you wouldn’t put me on the stretching bed again?” Zhang responded, “How could you believe what I said?” Ms. Liu said, “Is this what you do to increase the 'transformation' rates? How could you change someone’s heart by force?”
Ms. Liu was not allowed any visitors whatsoever during the two years at Masanjia. She didn’t see her family even once. She was also not allowed to make any phone calls or even write a letter. Her communication with the outside world was completely cut off.
Ms. Liu’s husband Mr. Yi Baojun went to Masanjia almost every month hoping to see her. Despite his being turned away time after time, he kept showing up just to let the guards know that Ms. Liu’s family is paying close attention to her well-being.
After a while, Mr. Yi started visiting different levels of the local government, the Complaints and Petition Administration, Procuratorate, and the Judicial Bureau to petition and file complaints about the horrible labor camp conditions and the inhumane abuse. However, under the CCP’s rule, these organizations no longer represent the people’s interests—they have become tools of the CCP and silence any voice different from the Party's.
Officials from the Dalian 610 Office inspected Masanjia Forced Labor camp in June and July 2011. When talking about the labor camp’s achievement in transforming Falun Dafa practitioners, Ms. Liu was mentioned as one of a few exceptions that had not transformed despite the labor camp’s continuous efforts. Her educational background and influence among the detained practitioners made her stand out to the city officials who cooked up a plan to keep Ms. Liu incarcerated longer.
Ms. Liu never gave in during her two years at Masanjia which was unsettling to the Dalian 610 Office officials. They didn’t want to let her off so easily and came up with a plan which blatantly violated the principle of “res judicata.”
Yi Bin of the Zhongshang District Procuratorate visited Ms. Liu a few times in July and August 2011 and told her, “Your case has not been closed.” Ms. Liu was confused, “Then what was this two years of forced labor all about?” Yi Bin said, “This is only for doing the exercises at the detention center.”
A few days before her term ended, officers from Zhongshan District Police Department and Taoyuanjie Police Station picked up Ms. Liu from Masanjia and took her to the Yaojia Detention Center. She was held in Cell No. 8-16.
After more than 700 days away from her family and having endured so much, Ms. Liu looked forward to reuniting with her family. Her husband, her son, and her parents missed her and were so ready and excited to have her back in their lives.
However, on September 21, the day Ms. Liu’s two-year forced labor term was supposed to end, the family received a phone call from the Community Office. “Liu Ronghua was picked up on the 19th by police from the Taoyuanjie Police Station and is now held at the Yaojia Detention Center. Her arrest warrant was issued and she is facing trial and a possible prison sentence.” Ms. Liu’s family was in utter disbelief.
Ms. Liu’s parents, both in their late 70’s, went back and forth between the Taoyuanjie Police Station, Zhongshan District Police Department, Zhongshan District Procuratorate, Zhongshan District Court, and Zhongshan District Complaints and Petition Administration to petition for their daughter’s release, but to no avail.
Director Li Litian and deputy director Liu Yansong of the Taoyuanjie Police Station told the couple that Ms. Liu’s case had been submitted to the police department and told the couple to “go home and wait. We’ll see you in court.”
Director Li Litian was hostile toward the couple and threatened to have the Procuratorate and the Court give Ms. Liu a life sentence if they continued to show up. Li had all the chairs in the lobby removed so the elderly couple had to stand while waiting.
Ms. Liu’s mother cried and asked the guard, “You have the slogan ‘Serving the People’ posted on your wall but your director told me to get out of here. Aren’t we people? If you didn’t arrest my daughter, I wouldn’t even be here. I’m not going anywhere. I will be right here waiting for my daughter to come back.”
With no other channels to petition, Ms. Liu’s family turned to the public. They wrote open letters to ask for support and help, hoping that people would pay attention to Ms. Liu’s case.
“Since entering school at age eight, my daughter Liu Ronghua has been a top student, from elementary to middle school, college, and graduate school. She became a teacher at the Dalian Ocean University after graduating and has taught many students who have made great contributions to the country. Her papers have been published in prestigious journals in the education field. She has never done anything to hurt anyone. My wife and I are very proud of her and are happy to see our child contributing positively to society,” wrote Ms. Liu’s father in an open letter appealing for her release.
“My daughter did not commit any crime. Just because Jiang Zemin said Falun Dafa is illegal doesn’t mean it’s actually true. I think Jiang has committed a crime—he violated the highest law of the land, the constitution.
“I am almost 80 years old and have seen a lot in my lifetime. I’ve lived through the various movements launched by the Communist regime, including the Great Cultural Revolution and the Tiananmen Square Massacre. Each started with a remark made by one of the higher-ups within the Party and each caused many lives and suffering of the people. Afterward, the Party always admitted that they had made a mistake.
“What did my daughter do wrong? All she ever did was to live up to the universal principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Is it wrong to try to be a good person? Through Dafa's practice, many have regained their health which in turn saved tons of medical expenses for the country. With a healthy body, practitioners can do a better job at work. What’s not good about that?
“If the TV programs and newspapers didn’t tell lies and slander Falun Dafa, my daughter would not have to tell people the truth about Dafa. Furthermore, people have the right to freedom of speech, press, assembly, parade, and demonstration. What freedom does my daughter have? Law enforcement is breaking the law. I will seek justice for my daughter. She didn’t do anything wrong. Practicing Falun Dafa does not break the law.”
Ms. Liu’s son, then a 16-year-old high school student, also wrote a letter asking for help to free his mom.
“Dear Sir/Madam,
“How are you? I was really excited and mentally preparing myself for my mother’s release. It was such a shock when I found out that my mother was detained again. As if an old scar was ripped open, my heart was bleeding. My mother is a Falun Dafa practitioner and she has always been a good person. She is a wonderful, loving mother and I am so proud of her.
“Ten years ago, she was sentenced to a year at a correctional camp for her belief. I lost the tender care of a mother and my family. I missed her all the time. When she returned from the camp that year, my 5’3” tall mother weighed less than 80 lbs. I heard that she is again emaciated. I am so worried about her. I don’t know how she’s holding up.
“I don’t understand. My mother has been targeted by the regime for her belief since I was six years old. As someone who hasn’t had his mother around since elementary school, can you imagine how badly I want to have her in my life? When I see other kids with their moms, my heart hurts.
“Though I am still a minor, I know full well that a citizen has the right to freedom of religion. I’ve learned this in school—it is the title of a chapter in my Politics book. Though I can count with one hand the times I saw my mother in the past 10 years, I know that she has not hurt anyone nor broke any law. No matter what she practices, she is not a bad person.
“To all the kind and righteous people out there, I believe that you all have your children and parents. You don’t want to watch your close family members incarcerated and subjected to torture when you know that they didn’t commit any crime. I hope that you can help me and support my mother so we can be reunited soon.”
