Self-Interest and Gain Can't Change My Heart

(Minghui.org) I was a junior in middle school when I started to read Zhuan Falun, the main book of Falun Dafa. It made me very happy.

A classmate asked me why I was so happy and if had I found some gold. I said it was better than gold (thinking of Falun Dafa). That was two decades ago.

Being Considerate and Not Moved by Personal Interest

I was employed as a cashier at a company that was doing poorly financially and often paid salaries late. Many people came with excuses on payday and gave me reasons why they needed the money more urgently than others.

I thought that as a Falun Dafa practitioner I must be considerate of others. Thus, I got them their money but never requested my salary on time.

When I was let go after two years, they owed me a large amount. They paid me, but I refused to accept the two months of severance pay, because they were struggling.

I accepted a job in another company, for which I had to travel. I never asked for more than I actually spent on travel.

On one occasion, I mentioned this to my husband. He challenged me that who would know if I requested less in a refund. I said I didn't want any person to know and that I just wanted peace in my heart.

Husband Understood Dafa Principles

My husband is a salesman in a software company. He told me that a foreign buyer wanted to buy their software He planned to buy it from the company at a discounted price, sell to the buyer at full price, and pocket the difference.

He explained that it was the norm in his industry. Other salespeople often asked him if he had any stuff to flip. When he answered no, people laughed at him for not taking advantage of his position and told him that people who had pocketed the price difference could afford to buy an apartment or a car.

I told him not to do it because it is unethical. I explained that damaging the interest of the company would result in personal loss and he could lose the trust of the company and buyers.

A few days later, he told me that he had deposited the entire payment into the company account. He understood the Dafa principle of being“Truthful.”

Test of Attachment to Personal Interest

I saw a 100 yuan bill on the ground near the entrance of our residential subdivision. I picked it up and asked the old man guarding the gate if we could find the one who lost the money by watching the video footage of the security camera.

He had a confused expression and said, “Why bother? You can buy something to eat and use the money.”

I smiled and said I wouldn't do it because it was not my money.

I handed the bill to the property management office. I have not checked again if they have found the owner of the money that was lost or have ever looked for the owner.

My intention was that my turning it in would let them know that there are still honest people in the world. It might plant the seed of kindness in their hearts, too.

Looking inward, I can see I still have many human notions and still have some attachment to humanly emotion, fame, and gain. It often happens when I am buried in work and don't have time to study the Falun Dafa teachings. I will spend more time on Fa study, do the three things well, and be a diligent Falun Dafa disciple.
