(Minghui.org) A 70-year-old woman in Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province is facing further prosecution for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. Her adult son, who has an intellectual disability, is now left at home alone and struggles to care for himself.

Ms. Liu Rulan was arrested on October 15, 2019, after being reported for practicing Falun Gong and has been held at Pudong Detention Center ever since. Her arrest was approved by Jiaozhou Procuratorate on October 30, 2019.

Persecuted for Upholding the Practice That Renewed Her Life

Thirty years ago, Ms. Liu's husband had an affair and divorced her. He also won full custody of their son.

Ms. Liu did many odd jobs to make a living after the divorce. The hardship of life and the sorrow of losing custody of her son took a toll on her health. She developed many ailments, including stomach problems, tracheitis, swollen knees, and severe migraines.

She couldn't afford to see a doctor and only bought some painkillers to alleviate the pain. Her health deteriorated over the years and she struggled day after day in despair.

Shortly after she was introduced to Falun Gong, all of her symptoms disappeared. The spiritual teachings of Falun Gong also helped her to walk out from the shadows of her divorce. Her resentment towards her ex-husband dissolved. She was no longer desperate or hated the world. Her heart was filled with light and hope.

After the persecution of Falun Gong began, she felt compelled to tell people how she benefited from the practice and to inform the public of the illegality of the persecution.

Because of that, she was arrested and given two forced labor camp terms for a total of 4.5 years.

After her ex-husband passed away in 2011, she moved in with her son to care for him. She was arrested six months later on September 8, 2011, while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. She was later sentenced to three years by Jiaozhou City Court. Her son has struggled to live by himself. Ms. Liu is concerned about her son's health as he has become emaciated.
