(Minghui.org) A woman in southwestern China was sentenced to three years for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since July 1999. Ms. Pan Xiaoping held firm to her faith while imprisoned, and the guards force-fed her toxic drugs for two straight months before her release.
Ms. Pan continued to suffer from the effects of the drugs after she returned home in July 2018. She began to show symptoms of mental disorder and was getting worse by the day. The police committed her to a mental hospital in October 2019. It is unclear whether her husband has given his consent.
The Shifang City, Sichuan Province resident used to suffer from many ailments, including stomach bleeding, heart problems, and nasopharyngeal cancer. All of her diseases were gone shortly after she took up Falun Gong in 2006. Ms. Pan also credits the practice for elevating her character and turning her into a more positive and cheerful person. She felt compelled to share her story with people, only to be arrested multiple times.
Because of refusing to give up her faith that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999, she was arrested four times between 2008 and 2011, and detained for weeks following each arrest. She was given one year of forced labor following her arrest on December 21, 2011 and subjected to various forms of physical abuse at Nanmusi Women’s Forced Labor Camp.
Her latest arrest was on July 2, 2015, when she gave out DVDs about Falun Gong to people.
She was beaten for refusing to wear a prison uniform at the first detention center. She held a hunger strike at the second detention center and was force-fed. Guards chained her limbs and forced her to bend down when walking. Guards also deprived her of sleep and ordered other inmates to beat and verbally abuse her.
Shifang Court sentenced her to three years in prison on September 16, 2015. She was taken to Sichuan Women's Prison on November 11, 2015.
Guards forced her to watch videos slandering Falun Gong every day. As she refused to give up her belief, guards didn't allow her to sleep until midnight and arranged for inmates to wake her up every half hour. She was not allowed to wash herself or buy living necessities.
Unable to bear the brutal torture anymore, Ms. Pan was forced to sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong against her will. After she expressed regret in signing the statement, the guards subjected her to more severe torture.
Over the period of two plus years, guards tortured her in many ways, including sleep deprivation, freezing, pouring cold water over her body, waterboarding, forcing her to sit on a small stool for a long time, electric shock, having her stand facing a wall, handcuffing and hanging to bed frame, force-feeding, tying her whole body up, and not allowing her to go to the bathroom.

Two months before her prison term ended, the guards started calling her psychotic. They force-fed medicine to “cure” her psychiatric problem, sometimes on a daily basis and sometimes every other day. She couldn't remember how many times she was force-fed, but she knew that she was still force-fed with the “medicine” on the day before she was released.
The drug caused pain in her hand, feet, and teeth. Her body became stiff and she suffered hearing loss and heart palpitations.
Ms. Pan suffered a mental disorder in early October, 2019, a few months after being released. Her husband had to lock her at home and then go to work.
Police from the Chengdong Police Station took her to Shifang Mental Hospital on October 18, 2019.
