Master Li Hongzhi, the founder of the Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong), said,
“From the start, my teaching has been motivated by a sense of responsibility toward the world and to those who want to learn our practice. People have been very receptive to it, and the practice has had a widely positive impact.” (The First Talk, Zhuan Falun)
In addition to the slow-moving exercises, Falun Dafa's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance help one purify the heart and mind. Many believe this to be the key to the dramatic health recoveries and improvements practitioners in China and around the world have experienced.
Profiles such as the one below look at people whose lives changed for the better after they took up the practice of Falun Dafa. We hope that these stories benefit the reader and help people better understand the practice.
Mr. Wu Junde, 59, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. He was a former employee of the Jinzhou Railway.
Before Mr. Wu started practicing Falun Gong in July 1997, he was diagnosed with late-stage septicemia, with loss of his hematopoietic function and very low blood platelet count. There was no treatment available for the condition.
He was only in his 30s and wanted desperately to recover. He tried many qigong practices but to no avail. One of his colleagues suggested that he practice Falun Gong, since it was known that people who practiced this qigong recovered from their illnesses.
After he did the Falun Gong exercises for the first time, he felt so good that he continued to do them every day. He also read the book Zhuan Falun, the main book of Falun Gong, and learned why people get ill.
He learned that he should follow Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in his everyday life, cultivate xinxing, and maintain virtue.
A week into the practice, his body felt light and all the symptoms of septicemia disappeared.
The amazing changes Mr. Wu experienced after he took up Falun Gong made him realize how precious it was. He was determined to practice it. Now, he strives to live by the principles Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He considers others' needs first and tries to be a good person at all times.
At work, he followed orders and worked hard. He never worried about protecting his own personal interests and finished his assignments whatever the situation and no matter how tired he was.
Before, Mr. Wu was known as a fighter who was quick to take offense over personal interests and had a hot temper. No one dared to ask him to do anything. After practicing Falun Gong, he changed into a kind person. No matter who needs help, he never hesitates. More than once he's rescued people in danger.
For a few years, he lived next to the railway in Shenyang. At that time, some of the students had to cross the tracks to get to their school. There were long trains that often parked on the tracks for a long time.
Some of the students who were anxious to get home for lunch at noon took a shortcut by crawling under the train to get across the tracks. One day, an eleven-year-old boy was crawling under the train with his bicycle when the train started to move. Petrified, the boy burst into tears.
Mr. Wu saw what was happening and rushed under the train. He told the boy to let go of the bicycle and the two of them walked with the slow-moving train. When he saw an opportunity to get away, he grabbed the boy and jumped away from the moving train.
He could be seen walking around the trains every day, watching for anyone in danger. He rescued several children that way.
A lady in her 60s was taking a shortcut over the tracks when a train approached at high speed. She thought it was going to stop at the station, but it was a passing train and did not even slow down.
People in the boarding area saw the danger she was in and shouted to her. The lady attempted to climb up onto the platform but couldn't make it. Mr. Wu rushed over and pulled her off the tracks just in time as the train sped by.
One day, a doctor was in an accident on her motorcycle. The motorcycle fell on top of her and she passed out. Mr. Wu saw it and rushed to rescue her. Bystanders who knew of her said, “Don't touch her. Her family resorts to blackmail. They might extort money from you.”
In China today, it is not uncommon for rescuers to be blackmailed. So when people encounter accidents, they refuse to help.
But Mr. Wu held no such prejudice and was always ready to help. He pulled the lady out from under the motorcycle, stopped a bus, and put her on it. By coincidence, the bus driver knew the doctor and took her to a hospital in Shenyang.
Later, the doctor's family tracked Mr. Wu down and thanked him profusely.
When Mr. Wu was walking near a bridge in the fall of 2004 a three-wheeled motorcycle missed the curve just before the bridge and fell into a two-meter-deep ditch. The vehicle was upside down and so was the driver. He could not move and passed out.
There were many onlookers, but nobody did anything. Mr. Wu climbed down into the ditch and used his sleeves to remove the broken glass from the window of the vehicle. He pulled the driver out through the window because the door was stuck.
Mr. Wu's hands were cut and bleeding from the glass. He put the man on the edge of the ditch and smelled alcohol. The man's face was cut and bleeding. With the help of a young man, Mr. Wu climbed up the slope, pulling the man to safety.
After about six minutes, the man regained consciousness. He said that his last name was Wan and asked Mr. Wu to call his family. His family came and took him to the hospital. Before he left, Wan asked Mr. Wu for a business card. Mr. Wu said, “You need to stay in the hospital. I practice Falun Dafa. You just remember that 'Falun Dafa is good.'”
Mr. Wu is being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) because he refuses to give up practicing Falun Gong. He is forced to stay away from his home to avoid harassment and arrest. He has no income and does not have an easy life. But he still does not ask for compensation when he saves someone. He always thinks first of those who are in need.
Mr. Wu changed into a good person who will help whenever the need arises. He is kind because he practices Falun Gong.
* * *
Falun Gong was introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in 1992. Living by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and practicing the five easy-to-learn exercises helps to improve one's physical health and moral values. About 100 million people were practicing Falun Gong in China before the communist regime suppressed this cultivation practice in 1999.
After more than 19 years, far from being eliminated by the communist regime, Falun Gong is flourishing in more than 100 countries. The teachings of Falun Gong have been translated into 39 languages. Groups of people doing the Falun Gong exercises can be seen in almost all major cities throughout the world.
