(Minghui.org) Since Falun Dafa (also called Falun Gong) was introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in 1992, it has brought improved health and well-being to more than 100 million people worldwide. The four women profiled in this article are typical examples.
Ms. Wang Huilian held a Master's degree and lectured at the Institute of Urban and Environmental Science at Northeast Normal University. In 1997, she was still in her 20s and the future held many opportunities for professional development. As she was preparing to study for a Ph.D. at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, she suddenly fell ill. Her illness worsened a year later.
A doctor told her, “You are seriously ill. You need immediate treatment.”
She was diagnosed with acute rheumatic heart disease and had to take steroid hormones as part of the treatment. The hormones relieved some of her symptoms, so she asked the doctors if she could be cleared to go back to school. Her doctors told her family that good health was more important than getting a Ph.D.
When she cut back on the steroids, all the joints in her body started to hurt. She couldn't take care of herself anymore. She couldn't feed herself or even turn over in bed, and her sister had to assist her in the restroom. The suffering caused Ms. Wang to break down.
When she later increased her intake of the steroid hormones, she developed a “moon face” and acne, side effects of the medication. She also had to take a large amount of Chinese medicine made from centipedes, scorpions, and other creatures as a means of “fighting fire with fire.”
Ms. Wang gave up all hope when her condition relapsed and worsened six months after she reduced her intake of the steroid hormones.
In despair, Ms. Wang suddenly recalled one of her friends recommending that she practice Falun Gong, which was hugely popular in China at that time. She thought that the practice was for people her parents' age; moreover, she was highly educated and had confidence in modern science and her treatment plan.
When her health worsened after a year of treatment, she started to reflect on her decision and opened up the book Zhuan Falun, which her friend had given her. The contents shook her to the core. “My view of the world completely changed; a completely new world appeared in front of me. I felt that I had hope,” she said.
She believed that, as a cultivator, if she followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, she would have a healthy body. In fact, a miracle did happen—the symptoms didn't appear when she cut back on the steroids. For the first time in a long while, Ms. Wang felt relaxed.
The acne and swelling on her face gradually subsided and she could eat normally. Ms. Wang completely recovered a few months later and returned to school in September 1998.
When the persecution of Falun Gong started in July 1999, Ms. Wang was arrested and detained in a forced labor camp for 20 months. She finally regained her freedom after being held in extended detention for two months and going on a hunger strike for seven months.
Ms. Wang escaped from China and has been living in the United States for the last 10 years. In media interviews, she recalled how she felt when she first started practicing Falun Gong: “I felt that my mentality changed, and I no longer paid so much attention to losses and gains. Instead, I used the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to make decisions.”
Ms. Wang says that she is very grateful to Mr. Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa. “As a cultivator, I've truly experienced what it is like to be free of illness. The doctors told me that ‘acute rheumatic heart disease will follow you forever,’ but that has not been the case; I have more energy now than I did 20 years ago. I have truly experienced the miracle of Dafa. Thank you, Master, for giving me a second life.”
Be it studies or work, life had always been smooth sailing for Ms. Dai Yiwei, who was originally from Taiwan.
She went to the best schools in Taiwan (the Taipei First Girls High School and National Taiwan University); earned two Master's degrees from the University of Connecticut, in biotechnology and computer engineering; and was hired by a company before she graduated from college.
When she was 30 years old, however, her wonderful life changed drastically. In 2005, a month after she started to work, she was rear-ended in her car. She suffered severe injuries and doctors told her to take a month off to rest before returning to work.
Months later, she felt worse: all her joints were starting to ache and it soon became difficult for her even to walk. Ms. Dai became afraid and quit her job to return to Taiwan for medical treatment. In Taiwan, she found an orthopedic doctor of Chinese medicine.
“Every joint inside your body has been dislocated,” the doctor told her. “All the dislocations are within the range of error for an x-ray; that's why they weren't discovered earlier. But it's too late to adjust them now because they are old injuries. In fact, it would be impossible.”
Ms. Dai didn't improve after a few months of treatment and gradually lost the ability to live on her own. Later, she developed “fibromyalgia” and needed morphine for her severe pain. A year and a half later, Ms. Dai decided to give up on the treatment in Taiwan and return to the United States.
Before she left, she found a traditional Chinese medicine doctor who used a pricking pin to assess her condition, and all the blood samples she obtained from Ms. Dai's acupuncture points were black. The doctor told her, “No one can save you—you should save yourself. You can practice Falun Gong, which has the power to heal all your ailments.” He gave Ms. Dai a Falun Gong flyer.
After she returned to the U.S., some of her joints quickly dislocated. Ms. Dai then asked her mother to bring her back to Taiwan for further medical treatment.
“Don't come back." her mother told her. "We have spent all our savings on your treatments.”
She cried for three days and wondered why she should continue to live. After a great deal of struggle, Ms. Dai decided to live for the sake of her family but wondered if she should give up on finding a cure. She suddenly thought of practicing Falun Gong and downloaded the book Zhuan Falun. After reading the whole book in a day, she was excited and made up her mind to practice Falun Gong.
When she woke up the next morning, she found that she could move her hands with ease and her entire body didn't hurt anymore. All the pain that she suffered in the past two years disappeared in one day.
She went to a nearby practice site and meditated for 40 minutes with everyone. She didn't feel any joint dislocation but instead felt very good. Ms. Dai became very excited. “Now I know, I am Master's disciple.”
She had been about to apply for a disability allowance, but now Ms. Dai was given a second chance at life overnight after practicing Falun Dafa. On May 12, 2008, after practicing Falun Dafa for eight months, she attended a World Falun Dafa Day celebration for the first time. She said, “On this day, we celebrate Master's birthday and express our gratitude to him. The only way I can repay him is by cultivating more diligently.”

In 1977, Ms. Xiu He was admitted to a provincial university with excellent grades and was crowned “belle of the school” for her outstanding abilities in singing, dancing, and sports. After graduation, she became an engineer at a distinguished state-owned enterprise.
Not long after she started work, Ms. Xiu was given a huge pay raise when she wrote a few articles with a co-worker, despite having just given birth.
Because her husband was also career-minded, Ms. Xiu had to do all the household chores as well as her job. As a result, by the time she was in her 30s, she suffered from renal failure, insomnia, depression, and drumming in the ears due to eardrum retraction.
If she chose to undergo a costly surgery, it would mean having her face cut open. Having oncer been crowned “belle of the school,” Ms. Xiu couldn't handle that.
During that time, her child developed a high fever, which led to myocardial damage after a hospital prescribed counterfeit medicine. To take care of her child, Ms. Xiu transferred to the workers’ training department so that she would have holidays during the summer and winter to take her child to the doctor.
Ms. Xiu wondered if she had done something wrong that led to this situation. She met a Falun Gong practitioner a few days later. After she had practiced for three days, the drumming in her ears disappeared and so did all her other health problems. Her child was also cured after listening to Master Li Hongzhi's lecture recordings.
Ms. Xiu was overwhelmed with emotion. She knelt before Master's image while silently giving thanks: “Master, although I have never seen you personally and you have never asked me for anything, you have saved my child's life, which means that you saved my family's life.”
Her child later graduated from college and got a job. After practicing Falun Dafa, Ms. Xiu could put others before herself and no longer worried that others might cheat her. She learned to be tolerant.
Ms. Xiu's co-workers commented that she had changed into a different person after seeing how practicing Falun Dafa gave her a healthy complexion. In 1998, when there was an influenza epidemic, Ms. Xiu was not affected.
After news of this spread, a few co-workers told her that they wanted to practice Falun Gong, too.
Ms. Mao Fengying, who now lives in Toronto, used to be a surgical nurse in Lanzhou Medical College No. 1 Affiliated Hospital.
In 1978 while still in middle school, Ms. Mao suffered an acute case of hepatitis. Despite long-term treatment, the disease was never under control and Ms. Mao often felt tired and nauseated.
On her first day as a surgical nurse, she was admitted to the hospital with Hepatitis C, which can easily develop into cirrhosis or liver cancer.
Despite extended treatment, in 1995 she was diagnosed with a swollen spleen and a hard liver. Her daily life and work were seriously affected. She was hospitalized many times and, although she was given the best medical care, her symptoms were only alleviated and the diseases were never completely under control.
Ms. Mao tried many alternative treatments, such as qigong, burning incense, praying to Buddha, fortune telling, paper burning, and Chinese medicine. She also went to see many famous doctors and specialists. While her old ailments went uncured, she developed new ones—serious atrophic gastritis, pyelitis, nephritis, and low blood pressure.
In 1996, she took sick leave and stayed at home. Ms. Mao went to Beijing to see famous doctors about her illness many times. Once she asked a doctor, “How long do I have to live?”
“I estimate that you have one to two years,” the sympathetic doctor said.
Ms. Mao collapsed completely. She hated the fact that she would die so soon. She was extremely sad and wept a great deal; she also became irritable.
Her husband was not with her at that time, and she did not have anyone else to express her feelings to, so she took out her frustration on her father, who was over 80. At home, she often lost her temper and got angry with her child for no reason.
When Ms. Mao was at her wits' end, her fate changed. July 22, 1996, was a day that Ms. Mao will never forget. That morning, she ran into an old lady who suggested that she practice Falun Gong. The lady told her that she had been free of all disease since she had begun the practice. She said there was a practice site at the hospital and asked Ms. Mao to go.
Ms. Mao wanted to give it a try and took her child, who also had liver disease, along with her. They learned the exercises and borrowed a copy of Zhuan Falun. She started reading the book at home and finished it by midnight.
This was the first book that Ms. Mao had read that explained in detail many questions about life, such as why a person gets ill. She went to the practice site again the next day and continued to read the book at home.
After two days, she suddenly felt that all her symptoms had disappeared. Her body felt warm and relaxed. She felt light as a breeze when she walked. She felt a tailwind when she rode a bicycle. No words could describe how Ms. Mao felt.
Ms. Mao's daughter, who now practices Falun Gong with her, was also cured. A month later, mother and daughter went to the hospital for tests that showed that they had completely recovered from liver disease.
In March 1996, Ms. Mao's husband went to the United States to work. However, due to Ms. Mao's and her daughter's poor health, they were unable to go with him. Three months later, Ms. Mao told her husband that she and their daughter had completely recovered and wanted to come to the United States.
Mother and daughter arrived in the United States in October 1996 and went for a medical exam Ms. Mao's husband had arranged. The results showed that they were both completely healthy.
When Ms. Mao's husband saw their miraculous recovery, he began practicing Falun Gong, too.
A year after her arrival in the United States, she gave birth to a healthy son.
