(Minghui.org) A Changle County woman was sentenced to 7 years in prison and fined 8,000 yuan for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Ms. Yu Shufen was first arrested on January 18, 2016 by officers Shan Jicheng and Zhao Shisheng from the local Domestic Security Office. The police released her two days later after Weifeng Detention Center declined to admit her due to her high blood sugar.

Shan called Ms. Yu's husband on January 25, asking him to tell his wife to come pick up her confiscated cell phone. She went and was interrogated by Shan for a whole afternoon before being let go. Shan tried, unsuccessfully, to pressure her to frame another local Falun Gong practitioner, Qin Lili.

Ms. Yu was summoned to the local Changle County Procuratorate on April 20. She was again asked about practitioner Qin. She firmly refused to fabricate evidence against Ms. Qin.

The local Changle County Court questioned Ms. Yu on May 12. She explained to them that she never gave any evidence against Ms. Qin and that officer Shan falsified the interrogation records.

Shan showed up at Ms. Yu's door in July that year and took her back into custody. He drove her to the local hospital the following afternoon, and she was again diagnosed with high blood sugar. Shan released her later that day.

Liu Qiang from the court called Ms. Yu on July 19 and informed her that she'd be tried the following day. Ms. Yu was let go after she appeared in court on July 20.

Shan tried again in September that year, but the detention center still refused to take Ms. Yu due to her high blood sugar.

Ms. Yu lived away from home for the next 17 months to avoid arrests. Shan called her husband numerous times demanding to know her whereabouts. Shan later told her husband that she has been sentenced to 7 years.

Ms. Yu returned home in February 2018 to celebrate the Chinese New Year holiday with her family. Officer Zhao Shisheng arrested her at home one month later, on March 13. She still had high blood sugar and the detention center refused to take her.

The police brought her back to the local police station. Ms. Yu was given her notice of prison sentencing the following day, but was allowed to go home for the time being. She filed an appeal on March 21.
