Senior Engineer Mr. Cai Chunpeng on Hunger Strike for 100 Days

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Cai Chunpeng from Shantou City has been illegally detained for approximately 100 days. He went on a hunger strike shortly after being arrested to protest the persecution. He is now in critical condition. Mr. Cai is emaciated, looks pale, and is unable to do take care of himself.

Mr. Cai was arrested on the morning of January 3, 2018, by six officers from the Chenghai District Police Department. They ransacked his home and confiscated his computer and several cell phones. He was taken to the Baisha Detention Center. The local 610 Office and police are attempting to press charges against him even though he has not done anything illegal.

The guards demanded that Mr. Cai’s wife and parents come to the detention center and persuade Mr. Cai to sign unspecified documents related to his arrest.

Mr. Cai then went on a hunger strike, which has continued for almost the entire time he has been detained. He was confined to his bed with his hands cuffed and feet shackled. Doctors and nurses from the local Huaqiao Hospital have force-fed him every three days, and his health has continued to deteriorate.

Mr. Cai's parents went to the detention center on February 11, 2018, and demanded that he be released on medical parole. Their request was denied.

Prior Detention and Torture

Mr. Cai's prior arrest occurred in September 2011, after which he was sentenced to two years in the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp. The guards deprived him of sleep for a month and shocked him with high-voltage electric batons.

After he was released from the labor camp, the police refused to return his identification card and professional certificates. This caused many difficulties in his daily life and made it hard for him to find a job.

Mr. Cai is 38 years old. He graduated from the Information Technology Department of Guangdong Industrial University. He is a senior engineer.
