Additional Persecution News from China – February 19, 2018 (11 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 10 cities or counties in 6 provinces. According to this report, 6 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 8 were illegally arrested.

1. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Jin Shuyue Taken to Prison

Ms. Jin Shuyue, 69, from Lushunkou District, was arrested on June 28, 2016. She presented illness symptoms on February 16, 2017. She was then released on bail after a trial.

Ms. Jin was later given a one-year-and-six-month prison term by the Lushunkou Court. She was again arrested and taken to the Dalian Detention Center on July 20, 2017. She was taken to the Liaoning Province Women's Prison on September 12, 2017.

2. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Sun Zhengyu Detained

Fu Dequan, deputy head of the Huanggu District Domestic Security Division, and other officers broke into Ms. Sun Zhengyu's home on September 20, 2017. They held her down on the floor and ransacked her home, damaging several pieces of furniture. They confiscated her house keys, rental contract, computer, cell phone, Falun Dafa books, and 1,300 yuan in cash. Ms. Sun was arrested and taken to the Shenyang City No. 1 Detention Center.

Ms. Sun's family has filed a criminal charge against Fu Dequan. The case has been transferred to the Prosecution Section of the Huanggu District Procuratorate. Pang Hao is in charge the case.

3. [Tongcheng County, Hubei Province] Ms. Wang Huiyuan Faces Trial

Ms. Wang Huiyuan, in her 50s, was arrested on August 30, 2017. She is held in the Chongyang County Detention Center. She is facing a trial by the Tongcheng County Court.

4. [Chaohu City, Anhui Province] Mr. Ji Guangkui Still Detained

Mr. Ji Guangkui is detained at the Chaohu City Detention Center following his arrest on March 18, 2017.

Mr. Ji was seized at home and brutally tortured at the local police station. He appeared in court on December 6 and is still awaiting a verdict.

It was learned recently that his family filed a complaint against the police on March 23, 2017.

5. [Beijing] Ms. Cong Peiling Sent for Emergency Treatment

Ms. Cong Peiling was arrested on December 16, 2017 and appeared in court 12 days later. Her family was not informed of her trial. She is detained at the Huairou Detention Center.

Her health has declined in detention, and she was rushed to hospital on February 14, 2018.

Ms. Cong was targeted because she refuses to renounce Falun Gong. Prior to her latest arrest, she had been detained on multiple occasions for her faith.

6. [Qing'an County, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Liu Zhongjie’s Current Situation

Ms. Liu Zhongjie's ordeal continues following her arrest five years ago for refusing to renounce Falun Gong.

Ms. Liu was a lawyer with the Tiancheng Law Firm, but she lost her job and was forced to move from place to place because of her faith in Falun Gong. She was arrested on September 10, 2012 and suffered a stroke in January 2013. The police still deceived her family into bringing her to the local court, where she was given a one and a half year prison sentence. Upon her family's strong protest, the court agreed to modify her sentence to a two-year probation.

Ms. Liu's husband divorced her shortly after she was sentenced, and she has been relying on her older sister to take care of her all these years. She remains bedridden and incapacitated to this day.

Her mother died of stress in January 2018.

7. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Ms. Sun Yulan Transferred to Prison

Ms. Sun Yulan, 71, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the Fengnan District Court in November 2017. She appealed to the Tangshan Intermediate Court. The court upheld the original sentence.

Ms. Sun was transferred to Shijianzhuang Women’s Prison at the beginning of 2018.

8. [Jidong County, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Zheng Shumei Sentenced

Ms. Zheng Shumei was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment on January 16, 2018. Her family was not notified about the trial. Ms. Zheng has filed an appeal to the intermediate court.

9. [Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province] Five Practitioners Sentenced

Four practitioners from Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province and a practitioner from Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province were sentenced by the Xinfu District Court on January 8, 2018. Mr. Zhao Xiaolu was given a term of four years; Mr. Zhao Yijun and Mr. Yang Miao, three years; Mr. Ma Zhanguo, two years and 10 months; Ms. Wu Xiaojiao, two years and 8 months. Each person was fined 5,000 yuan. Their families and lawyers were not notified about the trial.

The practitioners have appealed to the Xinzhou Intermediate Court.

10. [Panjin City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Zhang Shude Sentenced

Mr. Zhang Shude was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment by the Xinglongtai District Court before February 16, 2018, the Chinese New Year.

11. [Beijing] Mr. Zhang Jiuhai Sentenced, Father Passes Away

Mr. Zhang Jiuhai, from Xinggong Village, Liudian Town, Pinggu District, was arrested on May 8, 2017 and sentenced to four years’ imprisonment on September 30.

Mr. Zhang’s father had been living with him. After Mr. Zhang was arrested, his father fell and broke his hip in June 2017. His situation deteriorated because no one was there to care of him. He was not taken to hospital until September 3. He passed away at home in November 2017, at the age of 74.
