(Minghui.org) Hou Deyi met a turning point in her life in 2009. She was 18 and had been accepted into National Chung Hsing University to study applied mathematics. However, she felt uneasy leaving her home to start a new life at the university. Her mother was introduced to Falun Gong in May, by a close friend. Deyi thought that Falun Gong was like martial arts, and accompanied her mother to attend a nine-day workshop. While listening to the teachings of Falun Gong, she forgot her worries about the future and became determined to take up the practice.
Promoting Falun Gong at the University

During her first year at the university, Deyi saw The Art of Zhen Shan Ren (Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance) International Exhibition. She was touched by the paintings and wanted her friends to see the exhibition. She was able to repeat the exhibition guide's narration of the story behind the paintings and led groups of friends to see the exhibition.
Deyi became very active in her university's Falun Gong club after this experience. She became the president of the club and organized many events to clarify the truth and promote the practice. On one occasion however, she met a student from China who reprimanded and chased her away after learning she was a Falun Gong practitioner. This unpleasant encounter dampened her enthusiasm in promoting Falun Gong. Using her studies as an excuse, she stopped telling her classmates the facts about the persecution and seldom took part in the morning group exercises.
Becoming a True Practitioner
Deyi graduated with a masters degree in statistics in 2015 and was recruited by Cathay Securities Corporation as a data analyst. She got into an argument with a colleague once and had a strong urge to retaliate. But she suddenly realized that she had a strong attachment to competing with others. “Time is precious,” Deyi recalled, thinking, “Master has arranged this for me to improve in cultivation. Although I was very active in spreading the truth about Dafa, I did not think about how to practice cultivation and how I should truly change myself and eliminate my attachments.”
Master said:
“Gong cultivation has a way, the heart is the pathDafa has no bounds, hardship serves as the ferry”(“Falun Dafa” from Hong Yin)
She said, “In the past, I read this poem superficially but I now realized its profound meaning. If I don't put effort into cultivation and regard hardships as an opportunity to improve, how can I move forward?”
A heavy burden was lifted from her heart. For many years Deyi sought to meet other people's expectations. When she was criticized she felt discouraged. She now understood that this was the result of a strong attachment to fame and personal gain.
Doing Well in Truth Clarification
After Deyi learned the seriousness and importance of looking within in cultivation, she progressed in leaps and bounds. She took on different roles in truth clarification projects and embarked on an unexpected journey.
Deyi became an anchor for a program broadcast by New Tang Dynasty Television.
Deyi joined New Tang Dynasty Television last year and became an anchor for a program. She recalled that initially she was reluctant to take on the position and was under tremendous pressure. She eliminated the fear that she was not professional enough for the job, and told herself that she was doing this so that more people would learn the truth about Dafa through the station's programing.
She realized that when she puts other people before herself, her words have the power to move others, “No matter what others think of us, when we are compassionate, we can bring out the kindness in people and clarify the truth better.”
