(Minghui.org) I am a 53-year-old middle school teacher. Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by fairy tales. I loved the stories where “good was rewarded and evil was punished.”
I had so many questions about life in general. I wondered about the existence of heaven, hell, and the Creator. Why do some people live a comfortable life and others struggle? Can one change one's fate, and how? Why do some live a long life and others do not? Why do we come to earth in the first place? How can one live a fulfilled life? I carried these questions with me when I went to school, graduated, and started a family.
I came across Zhuan Falun in 1999. Many of the questions that had puzzled me all my life were answered in this book. I now realized why I came to earth and learned the true meaning of life. For that I am deeply grateful for Master and Dafa.
Purified, Body and Soul
My health had been poor since childhood: I suffered from hepatitis, anemia, migraine headaches and depression. Migraines tormented me often, and when they happened I could not do anything. My father searched near and far for a cure; I even stayed at home for two years in high school because of migraines. I took all kinds of medicine, both Chinese and Western, pills and bitter herbal concoctions. Nothing helped.
After I began cultivation in 1999, I gradually understood many Fa teachings. Master taught us:
“It’s because the way that the universe works, according to Buddhist thought, is that everything in a person’s life normally has ‘causal reasons’ behind it, and the ordeals of existence—such as coming into the world, aging, getting ill, and dying—are as they should be. The ailments and travails that people experience result from their karma, and karma is the product of past wrongdoings.” (Zhuan Falun)
I understood the causation of my ailments and understood that, if I wanted the illnesses gone, a healthy body and a better life, I needed to pay attention to my virtue and be a kind and better person. In about two months, I noticed my migraine headaches disappeared, my insomnia was gone, and my stomach pain left me. Headaches that had tormented me for years were gone completely. I have been headache-free since.
My in-laws were farmers and in their seventies. When my father-in-law had a stroke, he had some trouble walking. My husband also has a mentally challenged brother. In order to take care of them, I asked my husband to purchase a ranch for them near us. My husband was worried that we might not be able to afford it, since we also manage my in-law’s supplies for their farming. I told him not to worry; we applied for a loan and purchased the house and moved my in-laws in.
Tempered by Dafa
Both my husband's and my families were persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party. We both had a harsh childhood. We met in college. He was very kind to me and I married him after graduation. He was the one who brought me Zhuan Falun. He was very supportive of my cultivation and took me to watch the lectures. Even though he did not cultivate, he recognized Dafa's goodness. We had a harmonious life.
When the persecution began in July of 1999, I went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa. My husband was terrified. He was not only scared to death by the propaganda, he was very worried for my safety since he knew the evil CCP could do anything. He attempted to stop me from cultivation, but I refused. He was frustrated and grew distant from me. I continued to follow the principles of Dafa, treating him with kindness and consideration, taking care of my in-laws and doing my job well. He knew deep down that I was doing the right thing; he was just terrified.
My husband was diagnosed with cancer and was treated in 2013. He finally decided to give the practice a try. However, he did not truly treat himself as a cultivator and eventually passed away in 2014. Still, I saw that he was blessed in many ways for his support of Dafa before his time on earth was up.
Dutiful Daughter-in-Law
My family, friends, and neighbors all commented that I carried way too many burdens. I took care of my in-laws who were both in their eighties, a mentally challenged brother-in-law, and a daughter in college. As a cultivator, I knew I needed to carry on with my duties. I wanted to ease my in-laws burdens and let them feel that they could rely on me.
When my father-in-law's skin condition worsened, I took him to see the doctor and helped him with the skin care regimen. I soaked his feet in a warm bath, cleaned the dead skin away bit by bit and cleaned his wounds. My mother-in-law was very moved.
When my mother-in-law passed away in September 2015, I lost a helping hand in taking care of my father-in-law as well as his son. Others felt I was so unfortunate, but I drew my strength from Fa teachings. As a cultivator, we have a higher standard—we learn how to face tribulations and difficulties with righteous thoughts.
My story spread throughout our neighborhood and local stores. Many store owners told me in person, “We are amazed by you. Falun Dafa is good.”
I have Dafa, I have Master, and I have Fa teachings to guide me. I am very fortunate.
Thank you, Master! Thank you, Dafa!
