(Minghui.org) Ariel Liu, a U.S. resident, is calling for authorities in China’s Wuhan City, Hubei Province to release her mother, who has been detained for almost a month.
Ms. Liu’s mother, Ms. Huang Shiqun, 55, was arrested on December 26, 2017, for talking to people about the Chinese communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
Ms. Huang was sent to Wuhan City First Detention Center and scheduled for release on January 6, 2018. But her boss, Yuan Mang, director of Hubei Provincial Government Affiliated Third Preschool Learning Center, took her straight to the local Qiaokouqu Legal Education Center before her family got a chance to pick her up.
The Qiaokouqu Legal Education Center was established 18 years ago and has since been used as a brainwashing center to hold local Falun Gong practitioners who refuse to renounce their faith. At least 12 practitioners have died after suffering torture at the brainwashing center. Many more have been maimed or driven insane there.
Ms. Liu told the reporter who interviewed her that she is extremely worried about her mother’s wellbeing. She said, “I can’t even begin to imagine what kind of torture she is being subjected to at the brainwashing center.”
The young woman also recalled what kind of a person her mother was. Ms. Huang began practicing Falun Gong in 1996 and became much healthier and happier. At home, she was a loving mother and a caring aunt. When her husband’s brother fell ill and his wife died in an accident, Ms. Huang took in their middle-school-aged son. She also cared for her sister’s daughter for many years when the sister suffered from long-term illnesses.
In China, it is common for parents to give teachers gifts in exchange for treating their children well. Ms. Huang, however, always turned down bribes from her students’ parents and treated all her students the same.
Ms. Liu said, “I can’t understand why my mother, such a good person, would have anything to do with the police station or a brainwashing center.”
She continued, “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is a universal value. I don’t get it why the [Chinese government] would persecute Falun Gong and allow it to go on for 18 years and counting.
“My mother understood the risk of talking to people about Falun Gong, and I admire her courage. She should never have been arrested for speaking out about Falun Gong.”
Ms. Liu concluded, “Falun Gong is being practiced and enjoyed by people in more than 100 countries and regions, yet tens of millions of practitioners are being persecuted in China. I hope to see the persecution come to an end and all the detained practitioners released.”
