(Minghui.org) A married couple in Chongqing was sentenced to prison in the second half of 2014 for hanging banners reading “Falun Dafa is good” and “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.”

Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is a mind-body practice based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The Chinese communist regime has been persecuting the spiritual discipline since July 1999.

Ms. Gong Yigui and her husband, Mr. Chang Guangxing, were arrested on January 10, 2014, and sent to Zhoujiaba Detention Center hours later.

The local police suspected that more Falun Gong practitioners were involved in hanging banners. They tried in the next few months, unsuccessfully, to extract confessions from the couple regarding who initiated the idea of spreading Falun Gong information using banners, who wrote the words on the banners, who chose the locations, and who actually put up the banners.

Ms. Gong, who recovered from her scurvy and uterine cancer by practicing Falun Gong, had a relapse of her symptoms during detention. Noticing her health decline, the police decided to target her specifically. They released her on bail, saying that they cared about her well-being and wanted her to recover at home.

Ms. Gong was grateful that she could go home to take care of her daughter and loosened her guard when police summoned her to have talks from time to time.

Once, an officer said to her, “Actually we don’t really care that you guys hung those banners. We understand that you are people of faith and you want to say fair words for Falun Gong. Why don’t you urge your husband to tell us all about the banner thing? Once we have all the facts, we’ll quickly conclude his case. See how kind we are to you? We said to release you, and the court approved bail for you right away.”

Ms. Gong believed the officer and talked her husband into confessing to police.

She was soon taken back into custody and sentenced to five years in prison. Her husband was also given 5 years.

Ms. Gong is serving time at Zouma Town Women’s Prison. It is unclear where her husband is incarcerated.
