(Minghui.org) I am a Falun Dafa practitioner, who is employed as an electrical engineer. Since I began to practice Falun Dafa. I have followed the Dafa standards of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance at work. Therefore I have been getting along very well with the institute’s management and colleagues.

Changing My Work Environment

I work for a power research institute, and I am responsible for providing technical services to power plants. When offered the position, I had just graduated and lacked experience.

Some of my colleagues played video games, while others had different ways to kill time. Anyway, they did not pay much attention to their work, which made me wonder what I was supposed to do.

Teacher said:

“What is a good person? It’s someone who is good wherever he is. Since you earn a salary from your boss, if you don’t do a good job for your boss, I don’t think he would say you’re a good person. You would be taking his money without doing the work. So this means we should do things well.” (Teaching the Fa at the Conference in Europe)

Teacher's words helped me understand my obligation. I must do this job well, so I would not regret getting my paycheck. However, I first needed to understand my job requirements.

I used all my spare time to study and take part in relevant training. When I was not sure how to handle something, I would ask senior employees for their opinion.

When some new colleagues noticed my progress, they asked me to teach them. Gradually, I noticed that my colleagues began to treat their work more seriously.

Practicing Truthfulness

As most of our clients are power plants that are located in rural areas, we were traveling quite often. Whenever I was in charge of reporting travel expenses, I put down all the details in a small notebook.

When reimbursing my crew, most accepted the reimbursed amount without any argument because they knew that I practiced Dafa, and thus trusted me.

Our institute has preferred hotels and set prices for travel. Some colleagues always felt those hotels were not decent and wanted to stay at more expensive ones. I explained to my crew that we had to follow the requirements as we did not want to get into trouble with the accounting department.

Whenever someone asked to be paid for a few additional days, I told them that we could not fool the accounting department. They can easily figure it out by looking at the train or airfare tickets. Gradually people started following the rules.

Improvement Through Looking Inward

Under the institute's training system, a senior employee partnered with a junior employee when providing services to power plants.

People would compliment us and over time, I began to think highly of myself. Yet, I found that I often made decisions without thorough consideration. My solutions always got corrected by senior engineers by telling me to consider alternatives. By following their way of treating the issue, the problem could be easily resolved.

I began to look inward. Teacher said, “She considered herself better than others and extraordinary.” (Zhuan Falun)

I suddenly woke up. I actually fell into a trap of thinking too highly of myself. If I stuck to my own way, could I improve? Only by being humble and looking inward, can I improve.
