(Minghui.org) A resident in Lianyuangang City incarcerated for his faith has contracted Tuberculosis, and his family is requesting a medical parole for him.

Mr. Zhong Chongbin was arrested on June 12, 2015, shortly after he filed a criminal complaint against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for launching the persecution of Falun Gong that resulted in his repeated arrests and detention.

The authorities kept his family and lawyer in the dark regarding his prosecution, so Mr. Zhong’s loved ones had no idea of when he was sentenced to prison. They didn’t learn that he had been transferred to Hongzehu Prison until they received a letter from him.

Trial without Presence of Family or Lawyer

The local judicial bureau officials tried, unsuccessfully, to stop Mr. Zhong’s defense lawyer from representing him. They then told the lawyer that Mr. Zhong would be tried on March 23, 2016, when in fact they planned for Mr. Zhong to appear in court a day earlier.

The lawyer went to the local detention center on March 22 hoping to discuss the case with his client, only to be told that Mr. Zhong was to be immediately taken to the courthouse to face trial.

Unable to see his client, the lawyer rushed to contact Mr. Zhong's family, but he wasn't able to get ahold of them in a timely manner. By the time the family got to the courthouse, the trial was already over.

Mr. Zhong’s lawyer or family never heard anything from the authorities regarding the outcome of his trial.

Mr. Zhong wrote a letter to his family on March 28, 2017 and told them that he had been transferred to Division 2 of Hongzehu Prison. He didn’t say when he was moved there or how long his prison sentence was.

Mr. Zhong’s family learned from some insiders that he had contracted Tuberculosis and was in serious condition. They immediately mailed a medical parole request to the prison and are still waiting for a response at the time of writing.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
