(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhou Weifen, 61, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Jinyun County, Zhejiang Province. Because she refused to give up practicing Falun Gong, she was sentenced to a nine-year prison term in April 2010. She has been detained in Zhejiang Women's Prison.
During her detention, she was put in solitary confinement, and has been forbidden to talk to others imprisoned there. She is being monitored by prisoners.
Ms. Zhou Weifen worked at Jinyun County Birth Control Committee. She was arrested at work by officers from the Jinyun and Lisui Police Departments on the morning of July 10, 2009, and taken to the Lisui Detention Center. Her home was also ransacked.
Ms. Zhou was tried by the Liandu District Court on April 20, 2010, and sentenced to a nine-year prison term. She was 54 that year.
Ms. Zhou was taken to the No. 5 Ward in Zhejiang Women's Prison in 2010. It was said that she was detained in isolation in a small cell and was brainwashed. The inmates who were assigned to watch her bullied her. She was deprived of sleep and showering. Her body was covered with prickly heat during the summer. She was not provided with normal prison meals, and was given only pickles to eat.
After she was thought to have been “transformed”, she was transferred to a regular cell. From then on she had to perform hard labor.
She later declared that her agreement to give up Falun Gong was void. She was thus returned to the solitary confinement cell.
Ms. Zhou is currently being detained in a regular cell. However, the inmates who are assigned to monitor her do not allow her to talk to others. She is reported to be emaciated.
