(Minghui.org) An engineer in the city of Qiqiha was recently sentenced to a three and a half-year prison term for filing lawsuits against Jiang Zemin. Ms. Yang Shujun accused the former Chinese dictator of launching the persecution of Falun Gong that resulted in her imprisonment and torture.
Ms. Yang was sentenced twice before for refusing to renounce her faith in Falun Gong. She was given one year in 1999, and 12 years in 2004. During her second incarceration, she was forced to ingest unknown drugs that led to her having problems moving her right arm and leg.
Ms. Yang's third arrest took place in December 2015, and she was tried on April 12, 2016. Only a dozen people--Ms. Yang's son and his fiancee among them--were present in the courtroom, due to the tight security.
When the hearing started, the prosecutor listed the “crimes” that Ms. Yang had allegedly committed, including suing Jiang six times for her years of persecution. A video of Ms. Yang's home being ransacked was shown to prove that she has been telling people about Falun Gong.
When the presiding judge asked Ms. Yang why she had sued Jiang, she replied that Jiang has been persecuting Falun Gong practitioners and harvesting organs from practitioners. She emphasized that Jiang broke the law by infringing upon her constitutional right to freedom of belief.
She was interrupted by the judge numerous times when she talked about the benefits of practicing Falun Gong. The proceedings were adjourned soon after.
The sentencing hearing was held on April 29. Because Ms. Yang could no longer walk by herself, two policewomen dragged her into the courtroom. The judge announced that she was sentenced to three and a half years in prison. She said she wanted to appeal the verdict. It was all over in five minutes.
