(Minghui.org) Ms. Cui Jian'ai of Junan County was tried on January 18, 2016, five months after her arrest. The verdict came two months later, sentencing her to eight years for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual practice persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

After the persecution began, the authorities frequently harassed Ms. Cui and ransacked her home.

She was held in a forced labor camp in 2005, where she was beaten, tortured, and subjected to brainwashing for three years. She was forced to live away from home for some time to avoid further persecution.

Her husband Mr. Wang Houling, who also practices Falun Gong, had himself been held in a labor camp for three years since 2003.

During the couple's incarceration, Ms. Cui's mother-in-law, who is in her 70s, lived in constant worry and had to raise her two grandchildren alone.

Before Ms. Cui took up Falun Gong, she had chronic headaches and tonsil problems. After giving birth, she was left with gynecological disorders. Her health issues rendered her ill-tempered and depressed. Her health improved soon after she learned Falun Gong in 1997.
