Snapshot of Falun Gong Practitioners Whose Copies of Lawsuits Against Jiang Zemin Were Received by Minghui on August 14-15, 2015

(Minghui.org) Many Falun Gong practitioners are now exercising their legal right to sue Jiang Zemin for launching the persecution of Falun Gong and causing them great harm and tremendous suffering during the past 16 years. The momentum of this new wave of lawsuits against the former Chinese dictator is on the rise.

The Minghui website receives copies of criminal complaints against Jiang from many practitioners daily. In this report, we present a snapshot of some of the practitioners whose copies of lawsuits were received by Minghui on August 14-15, 2015.

These lawsuits are mailed to the Supreme People's Court and Supreme People's Procuratorate, which are required to process all criminal complaints filed by citizens, as of a recent ruling by the Supreme People's Court.

Summary of Five Cases

Ms. Zhou Yuling, a farmer, was tortured to death after 20 days in police custody. Her family also suffered persecution and filed the complaint on her behalf.

Mr. Yu Longyuan, a retired meteorological engineer, lost almost everything in the persecution. The farmhouse he built was taken away by the authorities, and his pension was suspended. His family was forced to leave home to avoid further police harassment and survive by scavenging. His parents passed away.

Mr. Liu Jianli, a geological engineer, spent his prime in and out detention for his belief. He survived severe torture, lost his wife and job, and remains unemployed at the age of 50.

Schoolteacher Ms. Zhang Xinyi and her husband were deported from Cambodia by order of the Chinese embassy. Ms. Zhang was detained several times and imprisoned for three years. The couple's income was reduced, causing them great financial hardship and leaving no money for medical treatment or to pay for their son's university tuition.

Colonel Xiong Ying's home was seized by police after he was sent to a forced labor camp. He was demoted and his wages suspended. He was eventually forced to retire.

Case 1: Ms. Zhou Yuling (周玉玲)

Profession: FarmerHometown: Qingyuan County, Liaoning ProvinceDate filed: June 29, 2015

Key FactsMs. Zhou was brutally force-fed and tortured in the Dashagou Detention Center. She died on September 20, 2002, only 20 days after her arrest.

Her body was emaciated and covered in bruises. Her eyes and mouth were opened wide, her fists were clenched, and her legs frozen in position. There was no valid death certificate.

Her sister-in-law is suing Jiang Zemin for her death.

Case 2: Mr. Yu Longyuan (于龙渊)

Profession: Meteorological engineerHometown: Minfeng County, Xinjiang Autonomous RegionDate filed: July 2, 2015

Key FactsMr. Yu and his family built a farmhouse on ten acres of land, with a hostel and restaurant on-site, car park, fish pond, auto repair shop, vineyard, and orchards. Because they refused to give up practicing Falun Gong, the police department stationed officers on their property, harassed the family, and threatened their customers until the family lost the business.

Officers ransacked Mr. Yu's home. They arrested and detained him 40-50 times at the for three days at a time.

He was held in a brainwashing center for two months in 2006 and monitored by officers around the clock.

His parents died in 2008.

To avoid further persecution, the couple entrusted the farm to an auto mechanic in 2009, escaped to Suzhou, and opened a restaurant.

A nationwide warrant was issued against them, and Mr. Yu's pension was suspended. The couple was detained for 45 days. The authorities forced them to sell their property for 150,000 yuan, an extremely low price, and demanded they leave the county.

The family became homeless. Mr. Yu's pension remained suspended. He was blacklisted and cannot find a regular job, so relies solely on scavenging to survive.

He was sentenced to two years of forced labor in 2012.

Case 3: Mr. Liu Jianli (刘建利)

Profession: Geological engineerHometown: Xingtai City, Hebei ProvinceDate filed: July 2, 2015

Key FactsMr. Liu was held in a mental hospital in 1999 and injected with nerve-damaging drugs. He became sluggish and stumbled around, had heart palpitations, and was constantly drowsy.

He was held in the detention center for over three months in 2000, where he was tortured and became emaciated. His family paid 5,000 yuan to bail him out. The coal mine where he worked suspended him and forced him to take brainwashing sessions.

Mr. Liu was held at the Tangshan City Brainwashing Center from February 2001. He conducted a hunger strike to protest the abuses. He had to pay 1,500 yuan each month for “school fees.”

He was then sent to a forced labor camp in November, where he was subjected to electric shocks, force-feeding, and sitting on a “small stool.” He was on the verge of death several times.

He was released in August 2002 but was directly taken to the brainwashing center, where he was forced-fed and tied to a bed. He was disoriented, too weak to talk, and often fell into a coma. His workplace refused to take him back, and Mr. Liu returned to his hometown in May 2003.

He has since been unemployed and is in great financial hardship.

Case 4: Ms. Zhang Xinyi (张新义)

Profession: Math teacherHometown: Changsha City, Hunan ProvinceDate filed: June 24, 2015

Key FactsMs. Zhang and her husband went to teach in Cambodia in 1998. Their school fired them in July 2002 because of their belief. The Chinese embassy in Cambodia ordered all Chinese schools not to hire them, refused to extend their passports, and convinced the Cambodian government to arrest and repatriate them, even after they were granted UN refugee protection. Upon their return to China, they were taken to a detention center for a month.

Police officers' ceaseless harassment of Ms. Zhang and her family caused her young son to write a statement severing his relationship to his mother in 2004.

Ms. Zhang was sentenced to three years in prison in 2005. Her personal belongings were confiscated, including several thousand yuan for her son's school fees. She developed severe myopia, with possible retinal detachment and blindness. She was denied release for medical parole, disallowed family visits and communication, and not allowed to receive money or necessities from her family. She was released in April 2008.

Ms. Zhang was sent to one year of forced labor in July 2009, but was rejected by the labor camp due to her physical condition.

She was taken to a brainwashing center in July and September. Ms. Zhang went on a hunger strike to protest her interrogation by torture.

The couple received a meager income. Mr. Li fell ill due to long term harassment and humiliation, but has no money for treatment. They also cannot afford their son's university school fees.

Case 5: Mr. Xiong Ying (熊鹰)

Profession: Colonel, General StaffHometown: Yichun City, Jiangxi ProvinceDate filed: August 2015

Key FactsMr. Xiong was arrested in July 2000, detained, and investigated from July 22 to September 26. He was deprived the right to hire an attorney, and forced to write “transformation” statements giving up his belief in Falun Gong.

He was sent to a forced labor camp in September 2000, demoted to captain, and his wages suspended. He was forced to wear a thick winter coat while manually operating mixing equipment next to a thousand-degree glass melting furnace. The labor was extremely hot and very dangerous, with every shift limited to five minutes. He was released in August 2002.

Mr. Xiong's home was confiscated by the military on the day after his arrest. He and his wife moved in with his mother-in-law. He was not allowed to return to his battalion and was finally discharged with no arrangement for any other work.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
