(Minghui.org) I am a chief physician. In China, a promotion to this level depends mainly on two factors: where you got your degree from, and what grants or published research that you have to your credit. However, I don’t have a degree from a prestigious university. Because of this, many people wonder how I got my position.

My answer is that I practice Falun Gong and follow the principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.” It is not because I’m smarter than others, rather it is because I’m always an honest person.

Practicing Falun Gong has changed my attitude towards life. By following the principles, I focused on truly learning things at medical school instead of just getting by. I thus built a solid foundation of medical knowledge.

During my residency, everybody tried to find a really accomplished doctor to be their mentor. I decided to just take things as they came, and it turned out that I got one of the best mentors in the end. He gave me great advice and showed me many different aspects of the medical field. This knowledge would help me greatly in publications and research later on in my career.

After I graduated, I was assigned to the emergency room, a place that few people wanted to go. I decided that it was for the best and tried to make the most of my situation.

In the emergency room, the most difficult patients were those who had attempted suicide by poison. Nobody liked to treat those patients because they were very difficult to diagnose. I figured that I should be the one to take care of them, since they were patients, after all, who needed help. And if nobody else would help them, I would.

I invested time in studying these cases, and wrote many of my publications on suicide by poison. It turned out that since the area wasn't one that people tended to pursue, nobody in my hospital had bothered publishing about it either.

Soon, the promotion evaluation process began. Since I hadn't graduated from a prestigious university, some of the superiors doubted the validity of my research. So they had other medical experts scrutinize my studies and try to replicate the results.

These experts concluded that my results were valid and that the treatments that I proposed would be highly effective in treating poisoned patients. Since I was the first in my hospital to publish in this area, I received a prize from the hospital for my work.

For the next step in the evaluation process, I had to defend my research before a panel. I had a strong defense because I made sure to be truthful about all my studies in the paper. My work stood up to the scrutiny, as I had gone through all the steps myself and had gotten the results firsthand. I received a perfect score on my defense.

The year I received the promotion was the first year where our hospital adopted a new policy that weighs research much more heavily than degree, with 80% of the weight given to research. In the past, the degree was considered more important.

I feel so fortunate that I have obtained Dafa and benefited from practicing Dafa. The principles of Dafa truly have helped me come a long way.
