The momentum of this new wave of lawsuits against the former Chinese dictator is on the rise.
The Minghui website receives copies of criminal complaints against Jiang from many practitioners daily. In this report, we present a snapshot of some of the practitioners whose copies of lawsuits were received by Minghui on August 8, 2015.
These lawsuits are mailed to the Supreme People's Court and Supreme People's Procuratorate, which are required to process all criminal complaints filed by citizens, as of a recent ruling by the Supreme People's Court.
Case 1: Ms. Zhao Hongbo (赵红波)
Profession: Mechanical DesignerHometown: Taiyuan, Shanxi Province
Key FactsMs. Zhao, 35, was still a college student when the persecution of Falun Gong started in 1999. Simply for appealing for her right to practice Falun Gong, she was arrested multiple times and sentenced to prison twice during the past 16 years. She spent a total of six years incarcerated at various facilities, unable to continue her schooling.
In particular, Taiyuan University of Technology expelled Ms. Zhao in 2001 under the pressure of the local 610 Office. School officials deceived her father into signing a document which they claimed to be a “student suspension form,” when in fact it was an expulsion form. Ms. Zhao was never reinstated and thus unable to finish school and earn her college diploma.
When she was detained at Xiaodian District Detention Center and Jinzhong Prison, Ms. Zhao was severely tortured. She was beaten, force-fed with concentrated salt water, and forced to stand long periods of time. One time she lost consciousness and had to be rushed to the hospital. The director of the detention center followed her to the hospital, and continued to beat her at the hospital.
Current CircumstancesMs. Zhao is currently working as a mechanical designer in Shanghai.
Case 2: Ms. Wang Chunmei (王春梅) on behalf of her husband Mr. Wang Hongtian (王洪田)
Hometown: Dehui City, Jilin Province
Key FactsMr. Wang Hongtian was arrested on March 1, 2000. He was sent to the Yinmahe Labor Camp where he suffered inhumane tortures. When his term was up, the police extended it for another six months because he refused to renounce his belief in Falun Gong.
Mr. Wang's health deteriorated daily under the severe persecution. Even so, the labor camp refused to discharge him for medical treatment until it was too late. On the 14th of August 2001, two days after Mr. Wang was sent home, he passed away. He was 41.
Ms. Wang Chunmei also suffered from intense persecution because she also persisted in practicing Falun Dafa. Officials from the Heizuizi Labor Camp in Changchun would not let her see her husband one last time before his death. She was informed of her husband's death a month later.
Current CircumstancesWhen Mr. Wang died, his business fell into bankruptcy. The family lost their only source of income. Their daughter had to discontinue her studies and stay at home. Ms. Wang is trying to make a living by collecting and selling recyclable items from trash dumps.
Case 3: Mr. Jiang Quande (姜全德)
Profession: Grain Reserve KeeperHometown: Nong'an County, Jilin ProvinceDate filed: July, 2015
Key FactsMr. Jiang was arrested multiple times for refusing to give up his belief in Falun Gong. In particular, he was given one year of forced labor following his arrest in February 2000. His term was later further extended for six months.
When Ms. Jiang was arrested again in November 2002, he was tortured to the point that both his arms became permanently disabled. The police tied him to a tiger bench and put a plastic bag over his head which nearly suffocated him. They pierced his fingers and nipples with sharp bamboo sticks and tied him tightly with a thin rope. As a result, his right arm was broken and he has not able to lift his arms since.
Mr. Jiang was sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2004. He went on a hunger strike to protest his ill-treatment at Shiling Prison. He was put in solitary confinement, and lost several teeth from beatings. Guards tied him to a death bed and shocked him with multiple electric batons. He was denied family visitation, which is a right granted to all prisoners under current Chinese law.

Case 4: Ms. Liu Chunlan (刘春兰) on behalf of her husband Mr. Li Changmao (李长茂)
Profession: farmerHometown: Qiting Town, Macheng City, Hubei ProvinceDate filed: June 24, 2015
Key FactsOn January 14, 2009, Mr. Li Changmao died 20 minutes after he left home to deliver Falun Gong informational materials. Mr. Li's wife has filed a lawsuit against Jiang Zemin for the wrongful death of her husband.
Mr. Li left home that fateful morning at 6:20 am. Twenty minutes later, police arrived at his home and informed his wife that he had died in a car accident less than two miles away from home.
When family members arrived at the scene, they saw that the bicycle Mr. Li rode was not damaged in any way. Mr. Li had no other injuries except a hole on the back of his head and bruises on his left hand. The Falun Gong materials he had with him were nowhere to be found. As the family was still examining everything, a funeral hearse arrived to take Mr. Li's body to the crematorium. The police had arranged the cremation without the family's consent.
Prior to that, Mr. Li had been arrested and brutally beaten on multiple occasions. He was sent to Shizishan Forced Labor Camp for over one year. In the labor camp, he was forced to perform hard labor and was subjected to brutal beatings.
In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.
The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.
Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.
Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
